Coventry City take on Sheffield United on Friday and a win for Frank Lampard’s side would be historic.

After the final international break of 2024/25, Championship football returns to our screens this weekend.

The marquee meeting of the game week sees Sheffield United hosting Coventry City in a Friday evening meeting.

The Blades go into the match aiming to, temporarily at least, climb above Leeds United at the top of the second division.

Coventry, meanwhile, are looking to cement themselves in the Championship play-offs but are currently locked in a very tight battle.

In turn, it is imperative that Frank Lampard and co. earn some sort of positive result if they want to end the weekend still inside the top six.

Frank Lampard can make Coventry City history vs Sheffield United

Chris Wilder has enjoyed ‘tremendous’ previous fixtures against Lampard when the latter was at Derby County and Chelsea.

And one pundit is backing Sheffield United to beat Coventry on March 28, even if they are predicting a close game.

However, should that prediction prove to be wrong and the Sky Blues emerge with the three points, Lampard will have done something no other Coventry boss has ever managed.

On Friday, the West Midlands outfit will be looking to win away to both Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday in the same season for the first time in club history.

Coventry beat Wednesday 2-1 at Hillsborough on February 15 when Ellis Simms scored a brace for the away side.

Coventry City vs Sheffield United head-to-head record

The previous meeting between these two sides ended in a 2-2 stalemate on November 23, 2024.

Coventry have won two of their last four league fixtures against the Blades, but prior to that, they had picked up just one win in six.

The two teams have faced off a total of 68 times throughout history, and it’s very hard to separate them.

Sheffield United and Coventry have both picked up 24 wins each, with the remaining 20 matches all ending as draws.
