Liam Gibbs has opened up on how the Norwich City squad feel about Marcelino Nunez’s move to rivals Ipswich Town.
In one of the most shocking developments of the transfer window, Nunez swapped Norwich for Ipswich – a transfer nobody saw coming.
Onel Hernandez blasted the Chilean for joining Ipswich, while Nunez cited the colour of the shirt as his reason for joining the Tractor Boys.

Gibbs is one of the many Norwich players to have shared the pitch with Nunez that will now have to face the prospect of coming up against him in a Championship match.
It’s unlikely that he will receive a warm reception from anyone affiliated with the Canaries, and the young midfielder admitted that Nunez’s decision to join the club’s biggest rivals has hurt the squad.
“I think it’s a difficult one because like there’s obviously such a big rivalry there and he was such a big fan favourite for the for the fans,” he told the PinkUn.
“I think the players are a little bit hurt by the fact that he’s gone to the rival club in the same league as us competing for what we were all competing for.
“So as a Norwich City player, we we’d never want one of our own to go and join Town, but it’s happened now. We’ve all all sort of moved on from it now and just focused on on what we can do, and obviously we we play them soon, so hopefully can can continue the run and and get the better of them.”
When does Marcelino Nunez return to Carrow Road?
Norwich vs Ipswich is a game that is marked in the calendar straight away when the 2025/26 fixtures are released.
With some of the best players in the Championship competing, it was already going to be a spicy affair, but now it has been taken up a notch.
Their first meeting is at Portman Road on Sunday 5 October at 12:00PM BST, but Nunez will have to wait until 11 April 2026 for a daunting return to his old stomping ground.
