Marcelino Nunez created a stir in East Anglia as he decided to move across the divide in the area, moving from Norwich City to join fierce rivals Ipswich Town.

It may be perceived that he opted to do this to help his career, with the aim of playing in the Premier League, because at present it could be argued that Ipswich are closer to making a return to the top flight.

Chris Sutton had his say on the decision of Nunez to cross the divide, as he believes it was brilliant business from Norwich City, as the former Canaries star argued no other club would have paid that money for the Chilean.

Fans have waited to hear from Nunez about his decision to move to Ipswich, with those supporters of the Tractor Boys potentially hoping he threw some shade at his former club, while those loyal to the Canaries may have wanted to understand why he opted to turn his back on Norwich City, just over a year after scoring the winner for the club in the East Anglian Derby.

The reason behind Marcelino Nunez’s move to Ipswich Town

The Pink Un have reported the first words of Nunez after his move from Norwich City to Ipswich Town after he spoke with the club channels.

He said: “I respect all teams. I’m grateful to Norwich for giving me the opportunity to play in England, but now I’m playing for Ipswich, and I’ll give it my all on the pitch.

“I just want to do everything I’ve always done since my debut. I want to demonstrate my technical ability, score goals, and provide assists. I hope I can contribute a lot on the pitch.

“It’s the same colour as the shirt I wore at my first club, the one I grew up with, Universidad Catolica. I’m very happy to be wearing this colour again.

“The stadium is beautiful. I want to see the atmosphere of the fans. I’m looking forward to my debut.”

Kieran McKenna on Marcelino Nunez

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna appeared to be delighted with the deal to sign the player, as they weakened their fiercest rivals while strengthening themselves with the deal.

Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times, he said: “We’re happy to have him.

“It’s an area that we felt that we certainly needed to add to with the players that have left.

“He’s a high-quality player, has a lot of Championship experience now, international experience and is still at a good age.

“He’s a really, really good footballer, plays through the pitch well, covers a lot of ground and is a set-piece taker and scorer, as we found a couple of seasons ago.”
