Hull City fans think Acun Ilicali is ‘insane’ as talks of sacking Ruben Selles emerge

Hull City fans should be celebrating staying in the Championship, but instead, talks of sacking manager Ruben Selles have emerged.

It’s been a turbulent 12 months for the Tigers and owner Acun Ilicali, who sacked Liam Rosenior in May 2024, despite the Englishman guiding Hull to seventh position in the Championship.

The East Yorkshire outfit have since diced with the idea of relegation and looked certainties for the drop under the German Tim Walter.

However, when Ruben Selles was appointed manager in December, things started to look up for the club, showing steady signs of progression under the former Reading boss.

That being said, it did take a final-day draw at Portsmouth for Hull to secure their Championship safety in 2024/25, and now there are shockingly already talks of Selles being sacked.

Hull City fans have lost it with Acun Ilicali as talks of sacking Ruben Selles emerge

Under the ownership of Turkish TV mogul Ilicali, Hull fans are never far away from facing controversial decisions, and another is on the horizon.

Following Saturday’s draw to Pompey, BBC Radio Humberside journalist Mike White confirmed that a change in management is being considered by Ilicali.

The 55-year-old raised alarm bells last May when he relieved Rosenior of his duties after he did a fine job in charge, and now history could repeat itself with Selles.

Reacting to this update from White via X, many Hull fans have had their say, with some branding it an ‘insane’ decision while others have even suggested he sells the club.

“Acun out if this happens,” one fan wrote while another replied: “It’s Dodgy Acun who needs to go.”

“It’s almost like the owners haven’t learned from sacking Rosenior,” a third pointed out.

“Need stability now. Selles is a decent manager, let him have some time,” someone else said.

“This is mental if true…just a bit of stability would be great. We didn’t get relegated and have the makings of a good squad for next season. Selles is far from convincing but Acun has to understand that the chaos must end!” a sixth exclaimed.

“Another controversial decision by the owner jeez,” a seventh stated.

Sacking Selles would be unforgivable

Hull fans are getting fed up with Ilicali’s decision-making, and sacking Selles would be the latest in a long list of poor ones.

The Turkish owner relieved Rosenior of his duties to hire Walter last summer, who he believed to bring ‘heart-attack’ football, the sort that would get fans bums off seats.

But, the Tigers became one of worst and most boring teams to watch in the Championship, with the German even causing his own players to lose confidence in their abilities.

Selles, although not the most tactically astute manager, instantly came in and instilled belief into the squad.

The least he deserves is a summer to assemble his squad, and if Ilicali denies him that chance, the rift between the fans and the owner will grow even bigger.
