Hull City lose a ‘fantastic player’ due to the transfer fee ban imposed by the EFL

Hull City have got off to a fantastic unbeaten start this campaign in the Championship, as they drew their opener with Coventry City before securing three points against Oxford United.

These performances in the Championship will have helped fans forget the struggles the club have had this summer in the transfer market due to the restrictions that had been placed on them.

This has had no impact on other clubs looking to acquire their players, as Coventry City have attempted to bring in Charlie Hughes on several occasions, with the Sky Blues planning their next move.

Hull did see their three-window transfer fee ban reduced to two, with the club only able to bring in loans and free transfers.

However, this ban has now had another impact upon the Tigers, as a deal they had lined up has now had to be cancelled.

Gustavo Puerta is no longer with Hull City

It has been reported by journalist Pipe Sierra and echoed by César Luis Merlo that Gustavo Puerta will be leaving Hull this summer.

The Tigers had triggered their option to buy him, but the deal hit a wall because of the transfer ban currently restricting the club.

This means that Gustavo Puerta will return to Bayer Leverkusen for the short term, with it expected that the player will leave the club this summer, as several teams are interested in signing him.

Despite the deal already being in place before the transfer ban was enforced, the issue was that the player could not be registered under the terms of this restriction on Hull City.

Ruben Selles was a huge fan of Gustavo Puerta

The Colombian midfielder was pivotal to Hull remaining in the Championship after a difficult campaign last year, playing in 30 of their league fixtures last season.

Ruben Selles utilised the player in their battle against relegation, and with Sheffield United needing recruits, this news may encourage the Blades manager to bring Puerta to Bramall Lane.

Speaking about the quality of Puerta after he had agreed to sign permanently, Ruben Selles spoke to Hull Live.

He said: “I think he’s a fantastic player for us. He’s a young, talented player who can start to play games and impact games. He has a lot to give to this football club. Having Gustavo in the dressing room is good news for the club.”
