Hull City are still in the hunt for a new manager, but Acun Ilicali may just have found his man after weeks of searching.
The surprise sacking of Ruben Selles earlier in May sent shockwaves through the Championship, with the Spaniard becoming the third Tigers boss to be sacked in the space of just 12 months.
Ilicali’s frustrations had boiled over as the former Reading boss failed to ensure the club’s survival earlier than the final day, as a 1-1 draw against Portsmouth at Fratton Park proved to be enough for the Humberside outfit, as they finished 21st in the Championship.

Stability is needed in HU3 sooner rather than later, and with the EFL transfer window just days away from opening, a new face is needed in the dugout to help lead Hull forward ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Hull City identify their next manager, it’s not Albert Riera
As first reported by TalkSport, Albert Riera has been touted as the man to lead the Tigers forward. However, transfer guru Graeme Bailey has exclusively revealed to EFL Analysis that Hull’s next manager has been identified, and it is not the former Liverpool winger.

We understand that a mystery man will take charge of the club, with Ilicali believing that he is a ‘fantastic’ appointment for the Championship side.
It is thought that a deal is very close, and there is a chance that something could happen in regards to the managerial set-up at Hull later on Monday evening.
Nuri Sahin is just one name that has been mentioned by supporters, with the former Borussia Dortmund coach’s Turkish links connecting him to the owner of the Tigers, but EFL Analysis has not had any confirmation as to whether he is this mystery person.

Acun Ilicali has kept his options open in his hunt for a Ruben Selles replacement
There have been plenty of names connected to the vacancy at the MKM Stadium over the course of the last few weeks, with Will Still just one of those who Hull hunted. However, he will now lead Southampton forward in the Championship next season.
Plymouth Argyle boss, Miron Muslic, was also a target for the Tigers, but he was much further down the list than the likes of Still and Riera. Compensation would have had to have been agreed to get the Pilgrims manager out of his contract, which may have led Ilicali away.
This next appointment is crucial for Hull, with the Championship’s competitiveness set to increase as Birmingham City and Wrexham join from League One. But supporters will be wary of their manager’s short-fuse when it comes to managers and keeping them around.
