Sheffield Wednesday’s financial situation has been given a hammering by football finance expert Kieran Maguire.
Sheffield Wednesday’s off-season period has been rather turbulent. Whilst the majority of Championship sides are gearing up for pre-season to prepare for the 2025/26 campaign, issues surrounding paying players and staff loom over the Owls.
Dejphon Chansiri was unable to pay a select number of players for May, with it understood that the issues have not been resolved for June’s payments, with non-playing staff set to, once again, be affected.
To make matters worse, Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl is set to leave, with the German actively looking for jobs elsewhere amid the uncertainty at Hillsborough.
Each individual concern has sparked a wave of trouble in S6, with football finance expert Kieran Maguire being left concerned over how it has evolved.

Finance expert Kieran Maguire makes Dejphon Chansiri claim following Sheffield Wednesday issues
Sheffield Wednesday owner Chansiri is actively seeking buyers, but has made it clear that he will only sell to the most suitable party, despite his ongoing involvement playing a significant part in hindering the club.
Finance expert Kieran Maguire gave his thoughts on the unfolding situation at Sheffield Wednesday, surrounding Chansiri’s financial crisis, and how it will affect them.
“Nobody knows where Chansiri gets his money from,” said Maguire, speaking to the Second Tier Podcast. “But, given that the club is late with wages, has messed around, has really annoyed the EFL as well, it’s looking at a three-session transfer embargo, which is going to make next year really tough.
“They actually had one of the lower wage budgets in the Championship in their first season when they returned.”
Maguire then moved on to one of his biggest concerns, which surrounds the state of the stadium and Chansiri’s lofty demands for potential investors.
“I am very concerned…Sheffield Wednesday is not worth £75million. The infrastructure in terms of what’s happened at Hillsborough, there’s not been enough investment there so whoever acquires the club, assuming that somebody is going to, has to spend money to make sure it’s in a sufficiently satisfactory position that you can play football there.
“The club has been mismanaged for many years.”

Delayed investment could leave the Owls with one major issue this season
Sheffield Wednesday have several concerns going into the new campaign, but as Maguire states, the stadium is one issue that may potentially not get addressed if Chansiri maintains control.
There have been issues with the North Stand, which have led to uncertainties over whether it is fit for use.
Chansiri has been given a limited amount of time to pursue work on the North Stand roof; otherwise, the club could be slapped with a safety certificate for it for 2025/26.
Depending on the significance of the issues that were raised, if this significantly hampers the experience of season ticket holders, some of whom would have spent £700+ to sit in that area, there will no doubt be many enraged supporters.
