After the Championship fixtures were released on Thursday, excitement is building for the new season, and Hull City fans are hoping 2025/26 will be better than the last.
Hull travel to Coventry City on the opening day of the season with new manager Sergej Jakirovic in the dugout, but before then, lots of work is required in the summer transfer window.
The Tigers are looking to add to their four signings, most notably the permanent addition of Gustavo Puerta and the arrival of free agent Semi Ajayi.
| Hull City’s Championship top scorers 2024/25 |
| Joao Pedro – 6 goals |
| Joe Gelhardt – 5 goals |
| Abu Kamara – 5 goals |
| Chris Bedia – 3 goals |
The most important area of the pitch that Acun Ilicali wants to strengthen is in attack, as City were the lowest scorers in the Championship last term.
Hull are chasing striker Oli McBurnie in an attempt to add some firepower to the squad, but Jakirovic arguably needs a new attacking midfielder, and one Premier League talent could be perfect.

Hull City need to sign Jamie Donley on loan from Tottenham
Tottenham sent Jamie Donley on loan to Leyton Orient, and the 20-year-old produced some stunning performances in the number 10 role, most notably his thunderous strike against Manchester City in the FA Cup.
Pep Guardiola lauded Donley as ‘incredible’ as a result, and after scoring eight and assisting 10 in League One last term, the youngster is ready for the Championship step-up.
| Statistic | Jamie Donley in 24/25 League One |
| Games | 42 |
| Goals | 8 |
| Assists | 10 |
| Chances created | 62 |
| Successful passes | 798 |
| Touches in opposition box | 89 |
Whilst several second-tier sides will undoubtedly be queuing up to sign the Spurs playmaker, it’s Hull City who should do everything in their power to capture him.
The Tigers struggled to find a consistent number 10 last term, someone who could produce a moment of magic from nothing and score goals from midfield.
Hull sold Ozan Tufan for just £2 million last summer as the 30-year-old wanted to return to Turkey, but as an attacking midfielder, he netted eight in 2022/23 and 10 during the 2023/24 campaign.
City missed Tufan’s source of quality from midfield, including his long-range strikes, and arguably didn’t replace him, with the likes of Kasey Palmer and Abdus Omur failing to hit the heights.
That is why Donley must be placed on Jakirovic’s list of targets this summer, as landing him ahead of their Championship rivals would see them finally replace Tufan and showcase a statement of intent.

Donley can form an incredible attacking quartet at Hull
In 2024/25, Hull’s attacking threat was dismantled following the season-ending injuries to Mohamed Belloumi and Liam Millar.
The duo will return at different points during pre-season, hopefully feeling ready to take the Championship by storm after showing glimpses of their talent.
Hull are also pursuing a permanent deal for Louie Barry after his loan spell last term was cut short by injury.
Barry was phenomenal for Stockport County in the first half of the season, returning an impressive 16 goals, and City are confident he could become a goalscoring machine in the second tier.
So, with three quality attacking options supplemented by Donley, Hull could go from being toothless to ruthless in 2025/26.
