Hull City fans can’t make their minds up over recent club decision, it could end as a ‘catastrophe’

One decision made by Hull City over the weekend has left supporters split amid their recent relegation battle.

Hull City suffered defeat this weekend to Swansea City, in which the Tigers looked fairly lethargic and spiritless for the full 90 minutes.

Whilst it was a controversial moment that decided the tale of the tie, with centre-back John Egan conceding a penalty for handball, when replays show a clear contact with his head, Hull City were still far off the pace, and such a result has kept them in the Championship relegation scrap.

Away from the on-pitch difficulties, the defeat to Swansea City marked the game that saw Hull City trigger a deal to sign Gustavo Puerta on a permanent deal from Bayer Leverkusen, a decision that has split the fanbase on whether this is a positive move by the club.

Hull City fans debate over Gustavo Puerta’s permanent signing

Puerta has shown plenty of quality for Hull City this season when utilised, and has been a real asset for Ruben Selles’ side, alongside Steven Alzate.

This saw Hull City trigger a deal to sign the Colombian for an estimated £3million deal, and it is one that some fans have regarded as brilliant news.

Per X, one fan said that it was the ‘best thing so far this weekend’, and that it is a ‘fantastic signing for the next few years if we manage to stay up’.

The subject of Hull being far from safe from relegation appears to be an issue amongst many fans, as one supporter said: “Praying this bloke stays beyond the summer, going to need him regardless of what division we’re in,” and fans responded by suggesting that it would be a ‘financial catastrophe if we go down’.

Another supporter showed disappointment in making a seven-figure signing for a player that they deemed to be not worth their salt, suggesting that the fee ‘could have [been] spent on a striker in January’.

Gustavo Puerta has already made his feelings clear about Hull future

Puerta recently conducted an interview, via AS, in which he spoke about his season at Hull City, as well as where his future lies.

“I’ve already completed years in Europe,” said Puerta. “The adaptation has been progressively better. I can now say that I’m adapting to the food, the people, and the European culture; that’s the hardest part of feeling better on the pitch. I’ll keep working and hope to move to a bigger club next season to continue demonstrating my quality.”

It is clear that, despite the decision to sign Puerta on a permanent deal, he is unlikely to be around in the long term due to his clear comments of wanting to ‘move to a bigger club’.

Just like we saw with the deal to sign Ryan Giles permanently, who was then handed a move to Middlesbrough soon after, there would be no surprise for fate to repeat itself with Puerta, especially if Hull City do fall to relegation this season.
