One Hull City star has spoken about his discussion with Jose Mourinho prior to joining the club.
Hull City currently find themselves in the midst of a relegation battle, with a clash against Coventry City providing them the opportunity to make some room between themselves and the bottom-three occupiers, Cardiff City, Luton Town, and Plymouth Argyle.
The Tigers, in truth, have faced a difficult 2024/25 Championship campaign, with much coming down to a wrong decision in regards to management at the start of the season, with Tim Walter being named as Liam Rosenior’s successor, whilst injuries have mounted up and caused almost grave concern for the club.
The likes of Mohamed Belloumi, Liam Millar, and Eliot Matazo have all endured season-ending injuries, and the former two’s fitness concerns led to an increased recruitment drive in the winter window, which notably saw Brazilian man Lincoln Henrique join the club from Fenerbahce. Hull City’s midfielder has spoken about his time at the club, as well as discussions with Mourinho prior to his departure from Turkey.

Hull City star Lincoln outlines discussion with Jose Mourinho prior to move
One thing that is guaranteed in a transfer window is for Hull City owner Acun Ilicali to use his inner-workings at Fenerbahce, and the Turkish Super Lig to his advantage, as we have seen in previous years with the arrivals of Ozan Tufan, Allahyar Sayyadamanesh, and Dogukan Sinik, only the latter of which remains at the club, albeit, has had his entire tenure in England ravaged with injuries.
The most recent arrival from Fenerbahce to Hull City was Brazilian talent Lincoln, who made a significant difference in the win away at Sheffield Wednesday after his cross set up Charlie Hughes’ thunderous header.
It is clear that the man currently on loan from the Turkish giants has enjoyed his time in East Yorkshire so far, and he will certainly be grateful for the discussion he had with Jose Mourinho before his departure.
Per Hull Live, Lincoln said: “I talked to Mourinho on one occasion,” he explained. “He made it clear to me that I could stay, but he couldn’t guarantee that I would play too much or play in every game. For me, it was clear; I said no, I want to be where I can train well and play, a team that believes in me and my quality, one that believes in Lincoln.
“After this conversation, Acun asked me if I wanted to go to Hull City. I came here and it’s amazing. I had other options, but this was the best decision for me. It’s a good team, a good, very strong league, and I’m very happy to be here.”

Lincoln would be a fine asset for Ruben Selles next season, but he must make one thing clear
Lincoln has made it clear that he wishes to further his stay at the MKM Stadium, and that desire will surely be further cemented if Ruben Selles’ side can cement their survival in the Championship.
However, the Brazilian must be fundamentally aware of the current pecking order at the club, one that has been somewhat skewed because of the several injuries impacting Selles’ selections.
Lincoln has often slotted on the left or right flank since his January arrival, but his game time could be potentially impacted once Millar and Belloumi return from their long-term injuries.
