Hull City boss Ruben Selles has previously hinted why it is difficult when facing off against Frank Lampard’s Coventry City.
Hull City and Coventry City will face off on Monday evening.
The Sky Blues will be hoping to continue in their play-off push, with a win giving them a five-point cushion from Tony Mowbray’s West Brom in 7th, whilst Hull City will be keen to get points on the board as they battle bravely from Championship relegation.
The first meeting between the two sides fell in Ruben Selles’ second game for The Tigers, as Frank Lampard’s side ran out as 2-1 victors following a second-half turnaround.
Prior to that first game, Selles spoke about the impact of Mark Robins at Coventry City, as well as his first ever meeting with Lampard in the Premier League.

Hull City boss Ruben Selles on why facing Lampard’s Coventry City is ‘different’ compared to Everton
Portuguese gaffer Selles, prior to the first meeting between Hull City and Coventry, touched on Lampard, as, per The Yorkshire Post, he said: “I know the team and Mark (Robins) was there for a long period, making an impact in the Championship,” said Selles of Coventry, a team he has never faced as a manager. “We faced Frank (Lampard) in the Premier League a couple of seasons ago with Everton, but it’s going to be a little different.”
Selles’ first encounter in the Premier League with Lampard occurred when the current Hull boss was the assistant at Southampton.
This is certainly a nod to the sheer improvement that Coventry have undergone with Lampard, as well as the fact that he is able to thrive at a club which backs him thoroughly off-the-pitch.
Selles was almost able to predict the brilliant turnaround of Coventry’s season that Lampard has performed, a remarkable achievement when reflecting on how his tenure with The Toffees ended.

Pressure will be on Frank Lampard to notch a win at the MKM Stadium
Coventry City won last time out in their continuing bid to finish the 2024/25 Championship campaign in the play-offs, but it was a narrow victory against a struggling Portsmouth side.
The Sky Blues, in comparison to their previous incredible run under Lampard, have somewhat hit a twist in the road, having only won one of their previous three, albeit, two of these games came against automatic promotion chasers Sheffield United and Burnley.
Nonetheless, with the opportunity to extend the gap between themselves and West Brom, the pressure will be on, especially against the side with the worst record at home in the Championship.
We all know that Hull City have the potential to cause an upset, having handed Sheffield United their first league defeat at Bramall Lane this season with a 3-0 demolition job; The Tigers aren’t to be written off against Lampard’s side.
