Hull City have now confirmed their signing of Semi Ajayi, but West Brom supporters have signalled one issue.
Hull City have started making key moves in the summer transfer window as new boss Sergej Jakirovic prepares for life in the Championship.
Already through the door is midfielder Reda Laalaoui from FUS Rabat, whilst Dillon Phillips has joined from Rotherham United, the latter of which is expected to become the Tigers’ back-up shot-stopper.
Now, Hull City have turned to Semi Ajayi to further strengthen their defensive options ahead of 2025/26, and whilst there is plenty to be optimistic about regarding the arrival of the Nigerian international, West Brom fans have warned the Tigers over one major Achilles heel that he carries.

Hull City fans told to expect limitations with Semi Ajayi’s game time as West Brom supporters point out injury record
On the surface, Hull fans have plenty to look forward to when welcoming Ajayi to the MKM Stadium this season. The promise he has shown comes in the form of 200 appearances in the Championship, in which he has been integral to both a successful Rotherham United and West Brom side.
On top of being a fantastic defender, he can also pop up with crucial goals, bagging 18 goals in the second tier, including a fantastic seven-goal season for Rotherham United.
However, reacting to the signing, West Brom fans have noted the injury issues that have plagued Ajayi’s career as a reason to hold reservations.
Reacting to one Hull City fan asking Baggies supporters their thoughts on the signing, one said: “[He’s] fast & so strong but inconsistent. Some weeks he will look like a world beater, others you’ll be tearing your hair out.”
Another fan said when asked what Hull fans should expect of him: “On the treatment table a lot. Lost a lot of pace, which was his get out of jail attribute when he’d play himself into trouble, but he’s solid on his day. Just can’t see a season where he doesn’t spend time on the treatment table.”
The trend continued amongst fans, with one suggesting that his ‘only big downside is his injury record’ and another saying that ‘injuries have got the better of him over the last couple of seasons’.
How many games has Semi Ajayi missed recently due to injury
Ajayi started the 2024/25 season with a run of games for the Baggies, proving to be a crucial member of the first team squad that got off to a brilliant start in the Championship, helping his side notch four clean sheets in the first six.
Unfortunately, November onwards was troublesome for Ajayi, having suffered a hamstring injury in an encounter with Cardiff City, leading to him being hooked in the second half. This injury would keep him on the touchline until mid-February, where he managed two games before yet another lengthy spell out.
Ajayi will need to be carefully handled this season, whether it is starting with a limited number of minutes or not placing too much importance on him being Hull’s main man at the back.
