Hull City’s most recent pursuit of a striker could be made easier because of his previous ambitions around a move away from his current club.
Ahead of the 2025/26 Championship season, Hull City will be looking to revolutionise their frontline options.
As the lowest goalscorers last season in the entire division, Acun Ilicali has correctly targeted strikers this summer to help bolster new boss Sergej Jakirovic’s options.
Whilst injuries hampered Hull significantly, with Liam Millar and Mohamed Belloumi suffering ACL injuries, recruitment didn’t help either Tim Walter or Ruben Selles in the slightest last season.
As a result, Hull City have targeted Oli McBurnie, whilst also sounding out another option, one who has previously hinted at desires of a new ‘opportunity’

Hull City could have edge in latest pursuit of Matija Frigan
One of the most recent names to be linked with Hull City is Matija Frigan, whose parent club, KVC Westerlo, per Hull Daily Mail, would require a sizeable package to let the striker go, but the Tigers are nonetheless interested.
Frigan’s goalscoring ability is undisputed, considering that he bagged a total of nine goals in 29 in Belgium’s top division last season.
Hull may gain confidence in their ongoing pursuit, knowing that Frigan is likely to be open to such a move. When speaking back in January about previous interest he had received from Sunderland, per Germanij, Frigan said: “I think it [Sunderland’s interest] was serious. I don’t worry about it. I’ve people who follow it, but I’ve heard at the club that it’s being talked about. I liked the idea, but when it didn’t go through, I put it out of my mind the next morning.
Speaking about the potential for him to move on from Westerlo at the end of the current campaign, he added: “The summer is coming, maybe a new opportunity, but I have a solid contract, the club decides everything.”

Former Hull star could be crucial in convincing Matija Frigan to join
At KVC Westerlo, Frigan plays alongside a familiar name amongst Hull City fans, Allahyar Sayyadmanesh, who was the first statement signing of the Acun Ilicali era.
Whilst it ultimately didn’t work out at the MKM Stadium for Sayyadmanesh, who struggled often with injuries that severely limited his game time at the club, he was still a fan favourite and a player who was cherished, despite the team not performing under Shota Arveladze.
Speaking truthfully, Sayyadmanesh would likely give Hull rave reviews to Frigan, who may see a move to East Yorkshire as highly beneficial to his career prospects.
