Derby County lifted themselves out of the Championship relegation zone in midweek as they recorded another win to become the in-form team in the division.
The Rams had previously looked certain for the drop, but John Eustace has certainly turned things around at Pride Park.
A run of three wins on the bounce ensured Derby caught up with their relegation rivals just before the international break.
Fast forward roughly two weeks, and the East Midlands side were looking to make it a fourth win on the spin.
They managed just that as goals from Craig Forsyth and Jerry Yates resulted in Derby beating Preston to add another precious three points to their Championship tally.
While it’s a huge turn in form for the Rams, it is truly summed up by one scoring statistic.

Derby County goal scoring statistics behind incredible run of form
With such an impressive turnaround in form, there are many questioning the changes John Eustace has made at Derby to make it all click.
While there are some tactical and technical elements, perhaps the most important thing that has swung the Rams’ way is game state.
Game state is the position the game is in, regarding the scoreline, in any event, as it will usually impact how a team plays or performs in reaction to that.
In the case of Derby, they have managed to score first in all of their last four games, which is no surprise when it comes to them winning as a result.
Once leading, the side has often looked rock solid, getting plenty of their players behind the ball and working on the counter.
It’s not just their ability to take the lead that’s doing this, though, it’s the clinical nature of their finishing that has sparked such a purple patch.
Derby have scored nine goals from 11 shots on target over these four wins – that’s a goal with 81% of their efforts on goal.
In wins over Blackburn, Coventry and Preston, the Rams scored with every shot on target they had, outlining just how clinical they have been.
With an xG [Expected Goals] value of 4.6 over that time, it shows the little percentages are going in their favour.
The question is, though, is it sustainable for Eustace and his in-form side?

Derby County’s scoring run may not be sustainable but that doesn’t matter
While Derby now have four wins in the bag and are out of the drop zone for now, they aren’t quite out of the woods yet.
There are seven games left for the Rams to pick up enough points to gain safety, with plenty of other teams looking competitive around the bottom half.
If they are to stay up, then Eustace simply needs this clinical run of form in front of goal to continue on a regular basis.
It may not be a sustainable scoring run, given just how clinical they have been as of late, but that may not really matter.
That’s due to two reasons, one is that they just need enough to stay up and with seven cup finals ahead, the sustainability simply comes down to those matches.
The second point is that game state is important, and while the side keep leading in games, they’ve never had to do anything more than they need to.
If the game was at a different state, say if they were trailing or level, then perhaps they’d put up more shooting numbers.
Instead, they’ve simply had to stay solid and do enough to see the matches out, giving them a great chance in the Championship before the season ends.
