International coach told there is no place for out of form Leicester City player in national team set-up

Leicester City have made a relatively strong start to the season as they continue to lick their wounds from the disappointment of relegation.

Marti Cifuentes’ side have won three of their opening four games and have now made five new additions to the squad ahead of the Championship season.

Some players who Leicester would like to leave are still at the King Power Stadium and as a result of their poor form, have lost their place in their national team’s side.

One of those is Wout Faes, and a former Belgian Pro League boss has criticised his country for repeatedly picking the defender.

Belgium boss questioned over repeated Wout Faes call-ups

Faes wasn’t included in the Belgian national team squad for their September internationals but has been a regular in the past.

He was also a starter last season, but has come off the bench in every game for the Foxes in this current campaign.

Foxes fans even booed Faes after he cupped his ear and former Anderlecht and Gent manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck cannot understand why people have been selecting him.

He told Voetbal Krant: “The previous national coach relied heavily on Wout Faes, with Theate or Debast alongside him. The new national coach continued that trend, with Wout Faes. Now we have a problem. Wout Faes hasn’t been called up.

Because he’s working on a transfer, according to the national coach? Openda and Vanhoutte were also working on transfers and were selected. But he’s not playing and is being booed by his own supporters.

“That says something. How are things going at the back for us? He’s been allowed to stay on for almost all those games and the problems remain.”

Wout Faes could still leave Leicester City

Even though the UK transfer window has closed, Leicester still have a chance of selling Faes.

Other transfer windows around the world are still open, notably Turkey and Saudi Arabia, which may allow the Foxes to get a deal done.

Cifuentes defended Faes after the boos, but clearly doesn’t trust him enough to start, meaning that if a reasonable offer comes in, the 27-year-old could be off.
