‘Abomination’, ‘Outstanding’ – Leicester City fans left divided by what Wout Faes did in Sheffield Wednesday win

It wasn’t pretty, but Leicester City came from behind to beat Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.

Wednesday put up a great fight as the away support protested against Dejphon Chansiri and they even took the lead through Nathaniel Chalobah.

Jannik Vestergaard equalised in the second half before Wout Faes’ 87th minute header secured the win for the Foxes.

Harry Winks changed the game for Leicester while Marti Cifuentes singled out Pierce Charles for his excellent goalkeeping display.

But there was one talking point that left the home support feeling rather conflicted.

Wout Faes cups ears to Leicester City crowd after winning goal

Faes is one of the players who has come under fire more than most in the squad.

A series of errors in the Premier League left fans feeling frustrated and when he was subbed on to replace Caleb Okoli, a chorus of boos rang around the crowd.

In the end, the Belgian would be the one to secure the three points for the hosts and after directing his header perfectly, celebrated by cupping his ears.

The celebration didn’t go unnoticed and left Leicester supporters split down the middle on whether or not it was the appropriate thing to do.

How Leicester City fans reacted to Wout Faes’ celebration

@JakeWatson_TV was the first to criticise the celebration, saying: “Wout Faes has been an abomination of a signing for Leicester. Here he is cupping his ears to the fans after scoring against a (10 man) team that barely had 11 professional players. Get him out of our club.”

@Bodfeatures disagreed, however, commenting: “We’ve got some of the worst fans in the league – booing a player who’s just scored the winner.”

@GreatGregosh said: “Get him gone, one goal doesn’t change a thing. He isn’t fit to wear the shirt.”

@FossilsandFosse wrote: “Outstanding game from him. Minimum of £20m: he’s such a game changer, particularly at the back.”
