Jens Cajuste spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Ipswich Town, and while relegation was suffered, it was clear to see the impact the club had on him.
Now back in the Championship, the Tractor Boys have not quite had the chance to flex their strength, and they are struggling towards the bottom of the table.
Still without a home win in the league in 2025, Kieran McKenna has work to do over the international break to get his team up to the required levels that he needs if the Suffolk outfit are to win promotion as expected, especially after a big summer of spending.
Nevertheless, Cajuste has spoken about his side’s chances of turning their poor start around, and why he fancies the chances of Ipswich in the Championship.

Jens Cajuste explains his Ipswich Town return and promotion
It’s been a frustrating few months for those at Portman Road, but they have a squad more than capable of making inroads and moving up the table.

Cajuste will play a key role in that, and he has spoken about the reason why he chose to return to Ipswich this season. When asked if the players are confident about 2025/26, he said (via: TWDT): “Very confident. This is a big club and we have great players. I don’t have any doubts that we have the ability to get back this season at all, none.
“I think I learned a lot. I had quite a few lessons and quite a few tough matches, but those are the ones you learn the most from. I’ve definitely grown not only football-wise but as a person since last year.”
Cajuste continued: “To be honest, it might be the style of football that suits me the best. I’ve played in quite a few different countries and different leagues, but for me English football is the one I’ve felt like I’ve adapted the best to.”
“Hopefully winning more games, more than last season which shouldn’t be too hard to beat,” he said when asked about what he is looking forward to. “Enjoying that and getting back to winning ways, I’d say.”

Jens Cajuste was a standout in the Premier League last season
While the 2024/25 campaign was a tough one for Ipswich, Cajuste showed his class at times as he made 30 appearances in the Premier League.
From defensive midfield, he scored once and registered a single assist as the Tractor Boys were ultimately relegated. However, the impact the fans and the club had on him as a whole was huge, thus he returned.
| Appearances (starts) | 30 (25) |
| Minutes played | 1978 |
| Goals (assists) | 1 (1) |
| Pass accuracy | 85.9% |
| Tackle success | 50% |
| Duel success | 49.5% |
| Aerial duel success | 37.1% |
Nevertheless, it’s vital now that Ipswich find a way to get back to winning ways, almost a year-and-a-half after their last consistent run.
Cajuste can help lead that, but they also need more defensive stability, as proven against Derby County at the weekend.
