Birmingham City were one of the busiest sides in the transfer window, but there was one deal that left Lee Hendrie shocked.

Chris Davies has been trying to build a Birmingham squad that can achieve back-to-back promotions, but hasn’t had it all their own way.

Leicester City beat Birmingham to hand the Blues their first league defeat of the season while key players like Kyogo Furuhashi and Demarai Gray are yet to really get firing.

They were the standout deals but for Hendrie, there was one deal the West Midlands club did that caught him by surprise.

Lee Hendrie names Jack Robinson transfer as the most surprising

A late deadline day deal saw Jack Robinson move from Sheffield United to Birmingham.

Robinson has been a part of the Blades side that has lost all four Championship games, but Hendrie didn’t expect Sheffield United to allow a man of his experience to leave Bramall Lane.

“I’m mightily surprised, to be honest, particularly with the situation they’re in this season,” he told Football League World.

“A poor start from them, defensively looked I think vulnerable from day one, really, and him being experienced I think this is an absolutely massive signing for Blues, I really do.

“I think Jack Robinson brings real experience, it’s a very good signing for them.”

From starting the season terribly with Sheffield United, Robinson’s perspective has now changed on the Championship table.

The pressure is on the left-back and his new teammates to bring top flight football back to St Andrew’s and he has said that promotion is the only thing the 32-year-old wants.

He said: “I feel like I’ve done everything I can with Sheffield United and the club’s going in a different direction.

There’s a big project going on here. They’ve done really well last year, started well this year as well.

“Any help I can give the team, that’s what it’s all about. Promotion is the goal at the end of this season.”
