Birmingham City suffered their first defeat of the league season on Friday evening, as Leicester City ran out 2-0 winners at the King Power Stadium.
Blues went into the clash off the back of a very disappointing Carabao Cup exit to League One side Port Vale in mid-week, and while they did match the Foxes for the most part, they looked vulnerable defensively.
The East Midlands outfit have risen to third in the table following the victory, although they have played a game more than 22 other sides in the division. Nevertheless, it was a strong performance from Marti Cifuentes’ team.
In particular, there was one standout for Leicester and Chris Davies was adamant following the game that Birmingham should have done more to stop him.

Chris Davies praises Abdul Fatawu’s Leicester City impact after Birmingham City loss
Kyogo Furuhashi was not exactly at his best for Blues on Friday, and the attacking threat that the team have shown in the opening weeks of the season was perhaps not as prevalent as it has been.

Meanwhile, Leicester were clinical, and every time they did come forward with the ball, they looked as though they would cause the Birmingham defenders major issues. Davies recognised this, and pinpointed Abdul Fatawu as the main threat for the hosts.
He said after the final whistle (via: Birmingham Live): “The first bit on the throw-in wasn’t right, we could have stayed a little bit more zonal, then he’s played a bouncing ball and it’s bouncing between two players, and there’s indecision.
“Obviously Ethan (Laird) is aware that Fatawu is behind him and we rush to get back but we can’t quite keep him onto that right foot.
“Fatawu will be one of the best wingers at this level, without doubt, and I thought Ethan did brilliantly against him. He was tight, he was aggressive, but it’s a key moment. It was a bad start for us.”
Abdul Fatawu stole the show for Leicester City
It was Fatawu’s ‘fantastic’ goal that opened the scoring for the Foxes at the King Power Stadium, with the superb winger cutting the ball back onto his left foot following a quick break, before arrowing a shot into the top corner.
The pace and skill of the 21-year-old was too much for the Birmingham defence to contain, and he found space with ease on multiple occasions – although Ethan Laird did his best on his weaker side.

Leicester are going to be a huge threat to teams out wide this season. Having Fatawu, Stephy Mavididi and Jeremy Monga on the flanks is a huge bonus, and they are all as dangerous as one another.
Nonetheless, at such a young age the Foxes’ number seven has all the talent to go to the top in the coming years, and Birmingham will not be the last team who fail to contain him this season.
