Lee Hendrie reveals the one main concern he has about Sheffield United, Ruben Selles won’t be happy

Sheffield United are entering a new era after a summer of change.

After sacking Chris Wilder, the Blades chose to appoint Ruben Selles in the hope they can go one better this season and secure promotion back to the Premier League.

Selles has already lost Vini Souza to Wolfsburg and reports have suggested that Gustavo Hamer could return to the Netherlands to join PSV.

Three new signings have arrived at Bramall Lane but Lee Hendrie has admitted that he has one major concern.

Lee Hendrie concerned by Sheffield United’s small transfer budget

Unlike some of their Championship rivals, Sheffield United have been a lot more cautious when it comes to spending money.

Two long-term signings from Bulgaria have arrived and the loan signing of Tyler Bindon means that little money has been spent.

It’s a repeat of last season where the likes of Callum O’Hare and Tyrese Campbell both joined for nothing and Hendrie fears that this could leave Selles short-changed.

He told Football League World: “Sheffield United is an attractive football club for most that are probably out of contract, and obviously if they’re limited with their budget I think this would be a bit of a blow for Selles.

“When you go into a football club, particularly one of that stature, you would’ve thought that they’d have invested a little more but you have to look at the squad they have at the moment.

“I don’t think it’s damaging for Ruben Selles, I just think you would’ve thought Sheffield United would have probably been the ones that would have invested and just really tried to go for it even more this season.”

Ruben Selles ‘working’ on securing two new signings

If Selles is frustrated by the lack of action then he certainly isn’t showing it and is remaining hopeful that more incomings will come through the door.

Speaking after his side’s recent pre-season friendly in Genoa, Selles said: “I would like to say [that United are close to further incomings] but we are working on it.

“I hope that, in the next couple of weeks, we can have two extra players in our squad. That would be good news.”
