Sheffield United have made the decision to sack Chris Wilder just weeks before players return for pre-season training, as we understand.
The Blades’ terrible play-off record continued after Sheffield United were beaten by Sunderland in the Championship play-off final.
We reported earlier this month that Wilder’s future was in doubt as Sheffield United’s new owners decided whether to stick or twist with the boyhood Blades fan and John Percy has revealed his dismissal is imminent.
Fans had been underwhelmed by the names suggested to replace Wilder and now his sacking is expected imminently, supporters have reacted to the news on social media.

How Sheffield United fans reacted to Chris Wilder’s imminent sacking
Wilder is close to Blades fans’ hearts due to his strong allegiance to the club and despite falling short in the quest for promotion, the pending decision hasn’t gone down well.
@NickHedge1 said: “Absolutely disgraceful how he’s been treated! New owners haven’t got a clue what they are doing!!”
@RhianBrwstrBaby added: “Absolutely disgusting.”
@KrisSmith98 commented: “Time will tell, but I can’t see this being anything other than a bad decision.”
@royhaywood stated: “If you sack Chris Wilder you’ll lose the fan base. More importantly you’ll make us realise that you have no idea about our football club.”
@Jonzysufc also wrote: “These mugs are coming in and getting rid of our greatest ever manager after he’s just finished on 92 points and taken us to a play off final. This whole situation is so disrespectful on Chris Wilder.”
What will Chris Wilder’s next steps be?
Wilder’s replacement will be a crucial moment in the Blades’ new owners’ reign early doors. But, as for the man himself, it’s hard to imagine him heading straight back into a job so soon.
It’s unlikely he’d be considered for the Leicester City job if Ruud van Nistelrooy was sacked and the market isn’t exactly brimming with options.
A return to Middlesbrough is out of the question and it seems that Bristol City will appoint Gerhard Struber instead.
Time will tell, but it may be 2026 at least before we see Wilder back in a dugout.
