As the Championship managerial merry-go-round shows no sign of slowing down, EFL Analysis can reveal that Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder is facing crunch talks over his future.
Wilder returned for his second spell at Sheffield United in December 2023, when the Blades were in deep trouble at the bottom of the Premier League table.
The Englishman was unable to save them from the drop, and despite starting the 2024/25 Championship campaign with a two-point deduction, Sheffield United finished third in the table, narrowly missing out on automatic promotion behind Burnley and Leeds United.
Unfortunately, the South Yorkshire outfit were unable to prevail in the Championship play-offs, as Sunderland booked their place in the top flight with a 2-1 win at Wembley.
Now, just weeks after losing in the play-off final, Wilder faces an uncertain future for one key reason.

Sheffield United will make a decision on Chris Wilder’s future next week
As per information from our Chief Football Correspondent, Graeme Bailey, EFL Analysis understands that Sheffield United are considering the future of Wilder and will make a decision next week.
This possibility has emerged after Wilder voiced his concerns to the owners about their summer plans, claiming he wants to be backed.
However, despite being a popular figure at Bramall Lane, we can confirm that the club are deciding whether they should make a change at the top.
It was only in January when The COH Sports group handed Wilder a new three-year deal with a statement from co-chairmen Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy expressing their “delight” and adding: “It has been a pleasure working with Chris and his knowledgeable team during this exciting new chapter for Sheffield United.”
But having made no secret of their data-driven approach, they could follow in the same direction as established Premier League clubs Brighton and Brentford by using analytics to shape their recruitment, and that could result in a change of manager.

Wilder has been backed by the owners
Wilder has voiced his concerns over the recruitment, but it was only in January when Sheffield United shelled out £10 million on Tom Cannon from Leicester City, and also notably signed Hamza Choudhury and Ben Brereton Diaz on loan.
This summer, Sheffield United are also close to signing Jimmy Dunne on a free transfer from QPR, while Chris Mepham is on the Blades’ radar.
EFL Analysis also exclusively revealed that United could pursue a move for Jack Rudoni from Coventry City, which demonstrates their ambition to win automatic promotion.
Unfortunately, taking all the above into account, Wilder can’t complain about being backed or lacking resources and that is why there is perhaps a disagreement.
