EFL Analysis have gained an insight into how Sheffield United feel about Tom Cannon following a rocky start since his Leicester City transfer.

The Blades are looking to gain promotion back to the Premier League this season and are currently on course to do exactly that.

Sheffield United beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 in their last fixture prior to the international break, leaving them only behind first place thanks to goal difference.

Their excellent form comes despite the fact Chris Wilder’s side began 2024/25 with a two-point deduction and January addition Tom Cannon largely floundering since his move from Leicester City.

Cannon scored 11 goals in 25 matches for Stoke City while on loan at the Bet365 Stadium in the first half of the season.

He was then recalled by Leicester and sold permanently to Sheffield United but has so far been unable to recapture his top form.

Now, speaking exclusively to EFL Analysis, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has provided an insight into how the Yorkshire outfit are feeling about Cannon following his poor start to life at Bramall Lane.

And despite failing to find the back of the net following his £10m move, Bailey has revealed that Sheffield United remain confident the 22-year-old, who is a long-term signing, will come good.

He said: “It clearly has not been a huge success thus far, but they do say that Cannon was signed not just for the short-term, he is a good player – look at all the teams they beat to sign him.

“They are confident he will come good.”

Chris Wilder made feelings on Tom Cannon clear

While Cannon hasn’t found his feet at Sheffield United yet, Wilder has still praised the ex-Leicester ace.

Speaking in February, as per BBC Sport, the manager backed Cannon to show more and urged patience.

He said: “There’s more to come from him, we have to be patient, we can’t rush. Everybody wants instant [success], but we know what he gives to the team and his team-mates know.

“He’s a young centre-forward, he stretches the game, opens it up, the press was magnificent from our point of view [against Middlesbrough]. It allowed us to create chances and control the game and ultimately get that big win.”

But with the battle for automatic promotion still so tight, Wilder would no doubt love Cannon to finally start scoring in the coming weeks.
