EFL expert delivers ‘worst run club’ claim on Cardiff City amid ’embarrassing’ managerial search

Cardiff City are in League One after finishing bottom of the Championship, with the Bluebirds still in pursuit of a new manager.

Nathan Jones emerges as one option for Cardiff. However, he turned down Cardiff to stay with Charlton Athletic following their promotion via the play-offs.

It won’t be Aaron Ramsey as Cardiff’s next boss, either. The midfielder is continuing his playing career by moving to Pumas in Mexico.

Cardiff fans agree that the right decision has been made on Ramsey but it leaves them with far fewer options. Des Buckingham could be next in line for Cardiff but no clarity has yet been found.

EFL expert Ali Maxwell details the ‘ugly picture’ at Cardiff City

Ali Maxwell of NTT20 is an EFL expert and he has delivered a bold claim on Cardiff’s recent search for a new manager and with everything else that has occurred in the media in recent weeks.

He said: “Cardiff City will kick off the League One segment for the first time since we’ve done the pod. Cardiff City are a third tier team and they look every inch the third tier team off the field at the moment, George.

“My strong stance on Cardiff is that they are one of the worst run clubs in the EFL. I think that’s the reason they got relegated from the Championship rather than apportioning the blame to managers or individual players or things of that nature.

“I think that football and the way that clubs are run has really moved on from the way that Cardiff try and do it and I get really frustrated on behalf of the fanbase because I think what’s happened in the last few weeks — I think it’s been quite embarrassing, to be honest.

“I think it’s really embarrassing for whoever gets the job, George. There’s always going to be that aspect of — ‘well, it seemed pretty clear that you fancied someone else more than me.’

“And the way that they go about things — not only the incoherent decision-making as I perceive it on the sporting side — but also the fact that everything plays out in the media. So, everyone seems to know what’s going on at all times.

“Understanding that maybe not all of it is entirely accurate, it just paints such an ugly picture I think at the club and it makes me worry for them.”

Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman calls ‘warning sign amid Cardiff’s managerial search issues

Speaking via Football League World, Sky Sports pundit and co-commentator Don Goodman has explained that someone like Buckingham would have to start well due to Vincent Tan’s nature.

He said: “I think Des Buckingham appears to be the favourite for the Cardiff City job. With Aaron Ramsey heading to Mexico, it almost gives Buckingham a free run at it.

“I do think he would be a reasonably-wise appointment given his pedigree at League One level with Oxford, getting them promoted back into the Championship.

“But, obviously, from his perspective, it will come with a little bit of a warning sign in terms of it having to go well, or he’ll be out very, very quickly.

“A good start would have to be the order of the day under that ownership, given they have got absolutely no problem in sacking managers.”
