Leicester City prepare for life after Ruud van Nistelrooy with surprising managerial candidate ‘on their radar’

EFL Analysis understands that Leicester City are already making plans for life in the Championship, which don’t appear to include Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Leicester’s brief stay in the Premier League came to an end after a 1-0 defeat against Liverpool to confirm a second relegation in three years.

It’s been a terrible campaign for the Foxes, who have just 17 points on the board and not scored a league goal at home in over four months.

Van Nistelrooy hasn’t been an improvement on Steve Cooper, who was sacked at the start of the season and in his post-Liverpool presser, the Dutchman told the club not to ‘waste time’ in preparing for the Championship campaign.

That appears like it won’t be with him in charge and a new face looks set to be in the King Power Stadium dugout in the summer.

Leicester considering making a move for Lee Carsley

EFL Analysis has exclusively been told by it’s correspondent Graeme Bailey that the Foxes have England Under-21s manager Lee Carsley ‘on their radar’.

Bailey added that no decision has been made on Van Nistelrooy’s future yet, but the consensus is that the 48-year-old will depart ahead of a new look next season.

A number of managerial options have been linked, with reports from The Telegraph suggesting that Russell Martin, Cesc Fabregas and Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl are also names in the pipeline.

Gary Lineker would endorse Lee Carsley move

A new face in the dugout would no doubt bring a fresh perspective in the stands.

Fans have appeared disillusioned with Van Nistelrooy for some time as they’ve played the waiting game for relegation to be confirmed.

Carsley is a new one to the list though and has received plenty of praise for his coaching style in the past, with Gary Lineker previously stating that he would welcome him becoming Leicester manager one day.

In an episode of The Rest is Football, he said: “I think he’s really got something, and I think there’s a little bit of a reluctance in the Premier League, opposed to perhaps other leagues, and I think with possible exceptions, Brentford and Brighton, who have brought in young managers that they think have got something about them.

“They’ve got a coaching ability that is there, you take a bit of a punt.”
