What must happen before Sheffield United make transfer decision on Leicester City’s Hamza Choudhury

EFL Analysis have gained an insight into how Sheffield United currently feel about signing Hamza Choudhury permanently.

The Blades had a very busy 2025 winter transfer window, that included raiding Championship-bound Leicester City.

Sheffield United fans aren’t happy with Tom Cannon after his big-money move from the King Power Stadium.

However, Cannon is being backed to come good at Bramall Lane despite failing to score in his first 12 outings.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United also secured the services of Foxes midfielder Hamza Choudhury on loan for the remainder of 2024/25.

How Sheffield United feel about signing Hamza Choudhury permanently

Choudhury shone for Sheffield United versus Coventry late last month and continues to earn praise for his excellent performances.

The Leicester loanee has proven one BBC pundit wrong, and as he continues to excel, fans are no doubt keen to see his deal made permanent.

Now, EFL Analysis have spoken exclusively to transfer expert Graeme Bailey for an update on Choudhury.

Bailey revealed Sheff Utd do have an option to make his loan permanent and while they like the player, will wait until the end of the season before making a decision.

He said: “Generally, United have been very happy with Choudhury since he came in, they like his versatility – they do have an option but have not yet made their decision.

“But there is a good chance it can happen, but they will wait to see the outcome of the season.”

Sheffield United transfer targets

It’s not just Choudhury who could be plying his trade in Yorkshire on a permanent deal come the start of 2025/26, however.

Sheffield United are targeting Sunderland’s Dan Ballard, but that transfer will only happen if Chris Wilder’s side go up and the Black Cats remain in the second tier.

Elsewhere, we revealed recently that Oliver Antman is a transfer target of the Blades, but Championship rivals Leeds United are also interested.

Leicester City and Southampton are named as interested parties for Antman as well.
