Sheffield United spent big money to land Tom Cannon from soon-to-be Championship side Leicester City in January.
Tom Cannon was sent out on loan by Leicester City during the summer of 2024, joining Stoke City on loan.
He scored 11 goals in 25 matches for the Potters before Leicester opted to recall him in the January transfer window.
Surprisingly, despite being stuck in a relegation battle and lacking much of an attacking threat, the Foxes then opted to sell Cannon to Sheffield United in the 2025 winter window.
The Blades are fighting for automatic promotion from the Championship, and fans likely expected Cannon to improve their chances of going up, given the fee paid and his record earlier in the season with Stoke.
It’s fair to say things haven’t really worked out for Cannon or Chris Wilder’s side, however, now sitting five points adrift of the top two.

Sheffield United fans on Tom Cannon transfer from Leicester City
EFL Analysis understands that Sheffield United think Cannon will come good but for the time being, things are looking shaky.
He’s yet to find the back of the net in 12 appearances, and when asked about the transfer this week, fans have taken to social media to make their feelings clear.
One fan wrote: “Feel really sorry for the lad. Clearly, Wilder’s preferred style of play doesn’t suit. He wants to be on the shoulder of CH’s and to have something to run onto. We more often than not try to play a more intricate, passing game. When he does make a run, the ball doesn’t come. He is forced to check ……..(then the ball comes too late).”
Second went on to claim: “[Ryan] Brewster all over again.”
“Unless we change the system and start playing to his strengths he won’t score any goals!” A third added.
While a fourth went as far as to write: “Pound for pound I’d say he’s been a worse signing than Brewster. Forget goals, he doesn’t even touch the ball.”
A fifth stated: “I can’t see what his strengths are because he’s shown nothing whatsoever.”
Another Sheffield United fan believes: “I’m sure we only signed him based upon the four goals he scored in a single game for Stoke!”
And a seventh Blades supporter replied: “Not good enough based on what I’ve seen so far.”

Sheffield United’s most expensive transfer
The man mentioned above by some fans, Rhian Brewster, is Sheffield United’s most expensive signing.
Sander Berge takes second place, while Cannon has come in as the Blades’ eighth-most costly arrival.
| Player | Fee |
| 1. Rhian Brewster | €26.00m |
| 2. Sander Berge | €25.00m |
| 3. Cameron Archer | €21.55 |
| 4. Aaron Ramsdale | €20.50m |
| 5. Ollie McBurnie | €19.10m |
| 6. Gustavo Hamer | €17.30m |
| 7. Vini Souza | €12.50m |
| 8. Tom Cannon | €11.85m |
| 9. Lys Mousset | €11.10 |
| 10. Callum Robinson | €7.8m |
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Cannon, but at 22, he still has a lot of time to improve and start scoring for Sheffield United.
