Forget Gustavo Hamer, 48-touch Sheffield United ace was the underrated MVP in Coventry City triumph

Sheffield United took one step closer to Championship promotion with a major win over Coventry City on Friday evening.

Despite their two-point deduction, the Blades are firmly in connection to secure automatic promotion this season.

After seeing off bitter rivals Sheffield Wednesday prior to the international break, Chris Wilder and Frank Lampard clashed once more on March 28.

When all was said and done, Sheffield United beat Coventry City 3-1, seeing them, for the time being, go top of the Championship ahead of Leeds United and Burnley playing their fixtures on Saturday.

Coventry, on the other hand, are now in danger of dropping out of the play-off places before the weekend is out.

After Gustavo Hamer, another Sheffield United star shone vs Coventry City

Chris Basham praised Tyrese Campbell after the striker’s goal against Lampard and co. on Friday.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United fans were in awe of Gustavo Hamer for his display on the night.

Hamer opened the scoring in the 19th minute and continued to cause Coventry’s backline a lot of problems for the remainder of his time on the pitch.

He made a number of key passes, and a case could be made that he was the Man of the Match for the Blades.

However, while he did not score or assist, Hamza Choudhury deserves a lot of credit for the role he played in securing the three points.

Sheffield United brought Choudhury in on loan from Leicester City over the winter, and last night was one of his best displays since his move.

Hamza Choudhury stats for Sheffield United vs Leicester City

During his time on the pitch, the midfielder dominated the battle in the center of the park, his passing was excellent and he largely negated the threat of key Coventry forwards.

Choudhury’s stats were excellent, and it’s clear he is finally finding his feet in a Sheffield United shirt.

His display was made even more impressive when Wilder revealed in his post-match interview that Choudhury has largely been working remotely this week.

He said: “He went missing for three days, the where’s Hamza? T-shirts were flying about.

“He’s not trained and he came back late last night so all the tactical work we had to do remotely with him. He came in early today. Outstanding, broke the game up.”
