We all know just how crazy the Championship can be.

There has only been one game week so far and we’ve already seen some incredible results which have included late wins for Leicester City and Southampton, as well as Sheffield United being hammered by Bristol City.

It’s far too early to be talking about who will be relegated and who will get promoted, but the current table means that if history is to be believed, the Foxes, Preston North End and Wrexham may already know their fate.

Incredible Championship stat emerges involving Leicester, Preston and Wrexham

Leicester, Preston and Wrexham all had mixed fortunes in their opening games.

The Foxes beat Sheffield Wednesday, Preston drew with QPR and Wrexham lost to Southampton.

Those results have left them in third, 11th and 18th and according to an incredible stat on X, the three sides in those positions after the first game of the season have never been relegated since the Championship was created.

On average, the lowest final position they’ve ever been is 21st – one place above the bottom three.

With 45 games to go, supporters of these clubs shouldn’t be counting their chickens just yet and there is still a long way to go before the record remains intact.

Championship table 2025/26

A lot of football still needs to be played, but the early frontrunners in the league are of course, the surprise of the weekend, Bristol City.

Promotion favourites Birmingham City and Ipswich Town played out a 1-1 draw together, and are midtable.
