Bristol City defeated Sunderland 2-1 at Ashton Gate on Saturday afternoon to leave Liam Manning’s side on the brink of securing a play-off place.
Sunderland were down to ten men for much of the game, and gave Bristol City a stern test. But goals from Rob Dickie and Ross McRorie makes them tantalisingly close to a historic play-off campaign.

There are just three games left of the run-in and Opta are predicting that Manning and co. will get over the line now that there are just a matter of points required to get into the top six, with Bristol City having never played Premier League football before.
In many ways, they have had to build to this point over a number of seasons now. The likes of Alex Scott, Lloyd Kelly, Adam Webster, and Antoine Semenyo have raised significant sums to aid them in rebuilding year after year.

Antoine Semenyo’s sell-on clause to Bristol City could land them small fortune
Replacing quality hasn’t always gone smoothly but Bristol City’s wheeling and dealing has got them to this stage where top flight football is in sight. Semenyo and others are now worth significantly more than they were having developed in the Premier League, too.
He is one of the Premier League’s most exciting attackers in 2024/25, with the forward able to operate on either flank or centrally. His power and ability to shoot well off both feet has made him a deadly weapon for AFC Bournemouth.
Naturally, that has attracted interest. Semenyo is the subject of that interest from two of the league’s most famous and historic clubs in Manchester United and Liverpool, with the Red Devils thought to be leading the race. That’s according to Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports.
Bournemouth will not give up Semenyo easily and are understood to value him as high as £70 million. However the structure of a deal remains undefined and could include a lower fixed fee with add-ons, similar to the deal Bournemouth did with Spurs for Dominic Solanke last summer.
The significance of this to Bristol City is the sell-on clause they have in his deal. Academy Director Brian Tinnion revealed this speaking to Bristol Live in February. He said: “Antoine Semenyo went to Sunderland on loan in League One at 21 and they sent him back saying he wasn’t good enough.
“At 22, we sold him for £10million to the Premier League. He’s going to go for £50-£60million and we’ve got a real percentage on that.”

Antoine Semenyo’s 2024/25 record and statistics
The Ghanaian has lit up the Premier League this season, which should serve Bristol City well now. That is irrespective of whether they are promoted and win the Premier League money.
It will add even more to the pot in terms of what they are able to spend next season in either the Championship or English football’s elite tier. Semenyo has bagged himself eight league goals this term.
| Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| 2022/23 | 11 | 1 | 0 |
| 2023/24 | 36 | 8 | 2 |
| 2024/25 | 36 | 10 | 5 |
In many ways, Semenyo is the current meta of Premier League forwards, with his speed and strength combined with excellent direct dribbling to make him the sort of player many of Europe’s elite are now after.
His food form could land his former side a hefty amount of extra cash this summer, highlighting the sensible transfers Bristol City have done in recent seasons.
