Luton Town’s downfall is sad to see as only four starters remain from first Premier League game

Two years ago, Luton Town were preparing to begin their Premier League journey for the very first time. Things are different now.

Back-to-back relegations have seen Luton come back to square one and they will be the first side to kick-off the League One season when they face newly-promoted AFC Wimbledon.

These two years have seen a huge change in personnel and many of those who started that first Premier League game against Brighton & Hove Albion have moved on.

Some do still remain at Kenilworth Road though. But who are they?

Matt Bloomfield’s side will look very different on the opening day of the League One season, with many of those in the side all at new clubs.

Goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski has joined Charlton Athletic and alongside him there is Amari’i Bell.

Tom Lockyer’s future still remains uncertain as he continues his recovery and then further up the pitch, Ryan Giles and Issa Kabore are no longer at the club.

Luton legend Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu left this summer to sign for Cambridge United and then, up top, striker Carlton Morris joined Derby County.

Four positions remain unidentified, and those are the quartet still playing for the Hatters.

Who are the Luton Town players that remain from the Premier League?

As we can see, there are four names missing from that starting XI.

The first of those is centre-back Mads Andersen, who was signed from Barnsley that year after an exceptional campaign at that level.

Andersen hasn’t always been a regular starter for the club but could see his game time improve a lot this year.

Two midfield positions were also occupied by players still on the books.

Tahith Chong and Marvellous Nakamba started in the middle of the park alongside Mpanzu and given their quality, you’d expect the pair to be there again against Wimbledon.

Rounding it all off is Elijah Adebayo. The striker scored 10 goals for Luton in the Premier League but struggled in the Championship, registering just five.

He will be among the favourites for this season’s golden boot.
