The unfortunate reason why Blackburn Rovers won’t receive a windfall from Thomas Kaminski’s Charlton Athletic transfer

Blackburn Rovers will come up against former goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski after he made the move to Charlton Athletic.

Kaminski was unveiled by Charlton after agreeing to join from Luton Town following their relegation to League One.

The goalkeeper played every game for Luton last season but manager Nathan Jones believes he is “one of the best” in the Championship.

Before his Hatters days, Kaminski was at Blackburn and made over 100 appearances, however, they won’t receive a penny of the fee.

Blackburn miss out on Thomas Kaminski sell-on clause

As is common nowadays, Blackburn included a sell-on clause that would see them receive 10 per cent of any profit Luton made on the transfer fee.

However, the Lancashire Telegraph have revealed that Rovers won’t receive anything as Charlton paid around £1m for his services – which is less than the fee Luton paid to sign Kaminski in 2023.

Kieran Maguire shared a worrying verdict about Blackburn’s finances and suggested that the owners have lost £200m since taking over the club in 2010.

EFL Analysis understands that Venky’s have no interest in selling Blackburn but the news of the money lost means that missing out on any kind of windfall from Kaminski’s move to Charlton is most certainly not welcome news.

Thomas Kaminski’s first words since joining Charlton

After completing his move to the south London side, Kaminski admitted he couldn’t wait to get started at The Valley.

He told the club’s website: “I’m really excited to join the club. When I first spoke to the gaffer he came across very, very determined and very passionate about what we wants to do and what he’s going to do. That was a big, big motivating factor for me to come to Charlton.”

Meanwhile, Jones added: “I’m very pleased because it’s a wonderful signing. Thomas was outstanding for Luton in the Premier League and he was outstanding last season in the Championship as well. For me, he’s one of the best goalkeepers in the division. We wanted to strengthen on all levels and improve every department, and we feel that the signing of Thomas does that.”
