Norwich City fans are all in agreement about Jack Wilshere, there’s one manager they’d rather take over

Jack Wilshere appears to be closing in on taking the Norwich City job full-time, but fans believe it may be too soon for the young coach.

After a promising season turned into a very disappointing one, Norwich City parted ways with former manager Johannes Hoff Thorup less than a year into his project at Carrow Road.

Since then, Jack Wilshere has stepped in as interim manager, and is preparing for just his second game in charge this weekend to close out the season against Cardiff City.

We’re led to believe Norwich will appoint Wilshere permanently after that game, and look to pick up where Thorup started going into next season.

It’s certainly a gamble for the club, putting a 33-year-old with just one game under his belt in charge, and fans around the club have made their feelings pretty clear on the matter.

Norwich fans think Jack Wilshere isn’t ready for top job

EFL Analysis has been tracking this story for a while now, and we exclusively revealed earlier this week that Norwich were really impressed by Wilshere in his early days in charge.

As we broke the news yesterday that a final decision was looming, Norwich fans took to Twitter/X to share their thoughts as to whether it’s the right move, and it’s safe to say the general consensus is one of fear and apprehension.

One fan said, “Relegate us now,” while another added, “He’s not ready, another failure and another wasted season.”

Elsewhere, supporters predicted a gloomy fate for Wilshere if he does get the job, with one writing, “Jack ain’t ready and we will sack him by October,” and another adding, “For at least 10 games until they realise he has no managerial experience and he’s blown promotion before you even get going.”

As for an alternative, a number of Norwich fans want to see a former favourite return to the club, suggesting the Canaries, “should appoint Russell Martin” instead.

Still, there are some Norwich fans who like the idea of Wilshere landing the job, with one saying, “One of my favourite players back in the day! Hope he smashes it.”

Norwich City treatment of Johannes Hoff Thorup speaks volumes

It will be fascinating to see how things play out at Norwich now, especially given the way the situation surrounding Johannes Hoff Thorup became rather messy towards the end.

Thorup explained how ‘communication’ broke down in the final days of his time at Carrow Road, and how expectations were distorted throughout the season leaving him to not know what he was even aiming for.

The Danish coach believed he was buying into a long-term project, but failure to make the play-offs became a dealbreaker for the board.

Then, there’s the fact the Norwich players barely even reacted to Thorup’s sacking, which suggests something wasn’t right behind the scenes there, too.

There’s a lot on the line for Ben Knapper, who needs to get his next decision right. If he backs Wilshere and he fails, there’ll be uproar, that’s for sure.
