What looked to be a promising season for Norwich City has turned into a fairly mediocre one, and fans are starting to question the Johannes Hoff Thorup project.
Norwich are currently sitting in 13th place in the Championship table, with recent results seeing the Canaries fall away from the play-off race.
Injuries have played their part in that dramatic downfall, but there have also been instances of Johannes Hoff Thorup coming in for criticism for poor game management.

Fans lambasted Thorup for the ’embarrassing’ defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, just one of many situations where Norwich gave up a winning position on the way to breaking an undesirable record this season.
Meanwhile, Norwich supporters have had to watch on as former manager Daniel Farke guides Leeds United to what looks like a promotion-winning campaign.

What Norwich City fans are saying about the Johannes Hoff Thorup project
Seeing the stark contrast in fortunes for the two managers has prompted Norwich fans to start making comparisons between the fine work Farke did at Carrow Road and the current project under Thorup, but that kind of thinking would be a mistake.
One supporter took to social media, writing: “I do trust the process but I’m little bit concerned that people are thinking Johannes Hoff Thorup’s second season will be like Daniel Farke’s second season. Unless we find a Buendia and a Pukki I feel we may have to be a little bit more patient. I think if we get play-offs next season that will be improvement.”
Another replied: “If he doesn’t start off well I’m not sure he’ll survive a full second season. This season has been an embarrassment, how on Earth have we fallen below Bristol City with our squad?”
Elsewhere in the replies, one supporter pinpointed a big problem in the recruitment at Norwich, writing: “I feel like there will be progress but the key difference between now and then is the age profile we’re recruiting. It was players in their prime from foreign leagues back then, much younger focus now, so do think it will take longer naturally.”
Farke clearly wasn’t perfect, though, with the former boss attracting some criticism for his lack of pragmatism: “Farke had a Sporting director who knew what was needed… I also can not recall Farke abandoning his philosophy to grind out a 1-0 win.”
Some looked at the difference in quality between the Championship now and back when Farke was at Norwich, with one fan replying: “Also got to remember the top end of the Championship has evolved hugely from a few seasons ago. I don’t even think the 20/21 squad would have beaten the likes of Leeds or Burnley this year. I’ve got faith in JHT but totally agree that we need to stop comparing this season to Farke’s first.”
The overall consensus, then, is that Farke had a much better start to life at Norwich, but there seems to be an understanding that Thorup has dealt with severe setbacks like those injury issues this season. Hopefully, this sentiment that he deserves more time and patience will be shared by the club’s owners.

Norwich City face an uncertain summer with rebuild expected
Whatever happens this season, it looks like Thorup will have a tough task on his hands for the 2025/26 campaign in the Championship, with a number of players ready to move on.
While Norwich are hoping to sign Jacob Wright permanently, and have their eyes on Richard Kone at Wycombe Wanderers, there are sure to be gaps to fill in the summer.
Unfortunately, Josh Sargent is wanted by Premier League clubs and looks destined to leave. He’s arguably the best player in the Championship, so his absence will surely hurt the Canaries.
Likewise, Sheffield United are intent on signing Borja Sainz, which means Norwich would be losing 32 goals right there. Replacing that is no mean feat, and how Norwich operate in the transfer market this summer will likely dictate Thorup’s long-term future.
