Norwich City told there is ‘real chance’ they lose Josh Sargent this summer, Newcastle and Everton among Premier League fans

In an EFL Analysis exclusive, we can reveal that Josh Sargent is looking more and more likely to be playing Premier League football next season, whether that be with Norwich City or not.

While Norwich City continue to flirt with a play-off place this season, it seems there is more than just the promotion prize fund on the line for the Canaries.

Dropping points against Oxford United this weekend could prove very costly, as Johannes Hoff Thorup attempts to retain his key players in preparation for next season.

EFL Analysis understands that Norwich could be about to lose Josh Sargent in the summer as Premier League suitors circle, and he’s not the only player who might be on his way out of Carrow Road.

Josh Sargent will be playing Premier League football next season, with or without Norwich City

Speaking to TBR Football’s Chief Football Correspondent and transfer expert, Graeme Bailey, we learned that Norwich are now going to struggle to keep hold of Sargent, who was dubbed the best striker in the Championship after scoring yet again this weekend.

On the chances of Sargent sticking around, Bailey told us: “It looks unlikely… Sargent has a host of clubs looking at him. I am told there is a real chance he returns to the Premier League next season, whether that be with Norwich or not.

“Sargent has settled brilliantly and now many consider him the best striker in the Championship. I understand Leeds like him a lot and are keeping close tabs on him, but Nottingham Forest, Newcastle, Brentford, Fulham and Everton have all watched him in 2025.”

Discussing those claims of Sargent being the best in the division, Bailey added: “I can tell you a number of Premier League scouts believe this is the case… even when Emmanuel Latte Lath etc. were around. He is going to be playing top-flight football next season, no matter what!”

Borja Sainz could be on his way, too – Norwich will need a big rebuild

If Johannes Hoff Thorup does fail in his mission to get promoted this season, it seems Norwich will need to undertake a fairly substantial rebuild.

Indeed, Josh Sargent is not the only player who could be on his way. We learned Borja Sainz is also the subject of interest from above.

Bailey told us: “Sainz, too, has a lot of admirers and with his contract will be up in 12-months this summer, they might have to sell. Again, he is garnering plenty of looks from the Premier League.”

Both Sargent and Sainz are competing for the Championship Golden Boot award this season. It’s no surprise that they are getting attention from the top flight, then.

As we previously exclusively revealed, Kellen Fisher is also wanted by Premier League clubs. Losing any one of these players would be a real blow for the Canaries. Losing all three would be a catastrophe.
