‘One of the reasons’ Dejphon Chansiri doesn’t want to sell Sheffield Wednesday mooted by finance expert

The future of Sheffield Wednesday under current owner Dejphon Chansiri continues to be called into question.

Danny Rohl will return to the club shortly to bring some semblance of normality back to the Owls.

However, Sheffield Wednesday remain in crisis, with multiple embargoes leaving them unable to sign anyone.

Players are leaving Wednesday this summer, but right now, they can’t be replaced with loans or cash signings.

EFL Analysis shared an exclusive update on the takeover of Sheffield Wednesday on Thursday, while one finance expert has been discussing a possible reason Dejphon Chansiri might not be keen to sell.

One reason Dejphon Chansiri may not want to sell Sheffield Wednesday

This week, a new EFL Regulator has been voted into law to help conduct sterner checks on new potential owners.

It’s too late for Wednesday, however, who have been stuck with Chansiri for some time now.

The Thai businessman has been discussed by finance expert Kieran Maguire on the latest episode of the Price of Football podcast.

Maguire discussed ‘one of the reasons’ he may not be keen to sell the Owls, as well as providing a more general update on their ongoing financial situation.

He said: “It’s one step forward, one step back, sometimes it’s two steps back. There has been a further publication on the EFL embargoes and transfer restrictions website.

“So Sheffield Wednesday now have both an embargo and a transfer restriction that is all due to the conduct of Dejphon Chansiri.

“There is now talk that he appears to be slightly more willing to listen and that he might be more rational in terms of the asking price. Equally, there are stories doing the rounds, and we can’t stand these up because we don’t know his personal circumstances. But one of the reasons that he doesn’t want to sell is that if he does sell the football club, then some personal financial issues which are effectively secured on his investment on Sheffield Wednesday, they crystallise and that he could be having to find money to deal with those.

“So we don’t know the extent of the truth and we are just repeating an element of hearsay here. We’re not saying that these stories are true at all. So I don’t think things are a lot worse but they’re certainly not better. Some players have handed in their notice. The position of the manager seems very vague, as this was we go to record. And so if I was a Wednesday fan, I would be very, very frustrated with the conduct of the owner.”

Who is trying to buy Sheffield Wednesday

As mentioned by EFL Analysis already, a US-based bidder has pulled out of a potential takeover of Wednesday.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom for fans, and there’s still some hope that Chansiri could be replaced.

It comes with at least three other parties still trying to move forward with their investment in the Owls.
