Sheffield Wednesday fans are completely divided over ‘sensational’ Danny Rohl update

Sheffield Wednesday’s woes have dominated the Championship headlines this summer, along with the future of manager Danny Rohl.

In June, Sheffield Wednesday were hit with a triple transfer embargo after failing to pay their players on multiple occasions.

The Owls are limited to spending £7k-a-week on new players and are unable to spend any transfer fees on new signings.

Their perilous financial situation under Dejphon Chansiri has resulted in a fire sale of their best stars, with Djeidi Gassama close to joining Rangers permanently after starring at Hillsborough in 2024/25.

Manager Danny Rohl was also expected to exit the club, but in a shock turn of events, the German could now stay in S6.

Sheffield Wednesday fans react as Danny Rohl could stay at Hillsborough

Throughout the summer so far, Rohl has expressed his desire to leave Wednesday after guiding his side to a 12th-place finish in 2024/25 under difficult circumstances.

Leicester City were linked with Rohl after sacking Ruud van Nistelrooy, though Marti Cifuentes is now expected to join the Foxes, leaving the 36-year-old in a difficult position.

It was felt that regardless of where the Owls found themselves come August, the German would be managing a new club.

However, amid talks of a takeover at Sheffield Wednesday, journalist Rob Station has revealed that Rohl intends to return to the club after being missing during pre-season.

This is massive news for the club during a difficult time, and it’s an update that has completely divided the fanbase.

“As always. ONE MAN responsible, let’s not push it all on this guy. Under the right ownership, he flourishes,” one fan said.

“Fantastic news. Really hopeful we could be on the cusp of a new era. I hope those who have been slagging off DR will wait for his side of the story,” someone else agreed, while a third wrote: “Wow that is unexpected but really good news.”

Meanwhile, other supporters aren’t willing to forgive Rohl for leaving Wednesday in the dark, with someone stating: “He’s gone about it the wrong way!!! He shouldn’t have returned!!”

“No one wants me so I’ll go back,” another commented while a seventh replied: “It will take a lot to win me back round. Don’t blame him for wanting out & not wanting to work for DC, but the way he’s conducted himself this summer is hard to forgive or forget.”

How Rohl can get the Sheffield Wednesday fans back onside

It’s easy to see why the fanbase is divided over this huge update. Some fans feel Rohl has burnt his bridges and shown naivety in the situation, whereas others are seeing the long-term picture.

Hardly anyone could have foreseen the German staying in S6 beyond the summer and taking charge of the club next season but after being rejected from numerous jobs, it is now a real possibility he will.

Of course, many will find it hard to forgive what he’s caused this summer, but with a potential takeover brewing, Rohl is undoubtedly the right man to lead Wednesday forward, even after how he’s acted.

So, if the Owls can embark on a fresh start under new owners, supporters can quickly put this saga behind them if he commits his future to the club.
