Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse for Sheffield Wednesday, one of their best players is about to be sold, and he might not be the last.
With the Owls under a transfer embargo right now, it’s unlikely we will see any new faces coming through the door this summer.
However, amid all the chaos, it’s been easy to forget that Sheffield Wednesday may be stripped of their best assets.
It was said over the weekend that Dejphon Chansiri was planning a ‘fire sale’ to raise funds, with the likes of Djeidi Gassama and Pierce Charles primed for the exit. Now, the former appears to have sealed his move away from Sheffield Wednesday already.

Djeidi Gassama close to completing Rangers move
While it was suspected that Blackburn Rovers were keen on Gassama, it is now Scottish giants Rangers who have swooped in and all but wrapped up a deal for the 21-year-old.
Reports from The Star on Tuesday evening began by claiming Gassama had spoken to Rangers and that personal terms would be “a formality” given he was eager to take on the opportunity North of the border.
Apparently, new recruitment figures at Ibrox have admired the young winger for a while and were keen to get a move done. At that early stage, a deal was not expected to be difficult to complete.
Later in the day, progress was made. As per The Daily Record, Gassama had agreed to a four-year deal with Rangers and the broader terms of the arrangement between the two clubs had been thrashed out, too.
According to Joe Crann at The Star, an official announcement of the transfer is now thought to be “imminent” and while a fee is likely to remain undisclosed, we expect a significant amount will be paid up front.
Reports last week suggested the Owls would sell Gassama for around £2.5m.

Short-sighted strategy from Dejphon Chansiri is going to ruin Sheffield Wednesday
It’s a real sorry state of affairs when the most exciting player at the club is being sold to simply fund the wages of those around him.
What’s even more sad is, Gassama will not be the last player Wednesday begrudgingly sell this summer, and it’s going to leave the team in a vulnerable position ahead of the new Championship campaign.
Dejphon Chansiri is essentially buying himself time, it would seem. Paying wages and the HMRC bill now might just see the chairman through to August, at which point the club would receive a very helpful cash injection in the form of TV money from the EFL.
If Chansiri makes it that far, he may well find that he can avoid selling the club and trudge through the season. That would be far from ideal for the fans, of course, who are desperate for the Thai businessman to sell up.
It was thought there had been positive developments in the takeover process, with Chansiri signing an NDA and professionals taking over the negotiations.
However, with the club now selling off its most valuable players, surely the proposition of buying Sheffield Wednesday now becomes far less appealing.
It also means the team are going to be in a very difficult position when it comes to on-the-field matters, with relegation now a distinct possibility if this squad is weakened any further.
