Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has just completed a hat-trick of ill-fated errors after the club’s financial turmoil worsens even further.

Amid the Championship club’s ongoing financial crisis overseen by owner Dejphon Chansiri, the Owls have been handed several punishments this summer, with another one to add to the list.

Sheffield Wednesday’s three-window transfer ban rages on this summer as a result of unpaid wages, which has seen Sheffield Wednesday under a double embargo by the EFL.

With many Owls stars handing in their 15-day notices after the latest month of failed wages, Chansiri is facing strike action as a result of non-payments.

Unfortunately, the crisis at Sheffield Wednesday has taken yet another turn for the worse, with the Owls now under a triple embargo by the EFL.

Sheffield Wednesday hit with triple embargo after latest EFL breach

The end of June has spelled even further trouble for Sheffield Wednesday, with club legend Callum Patterson leaving Sheffield Wednesday as a free agent following the expiry of his contract, and several other players could follow suit, as well as head coach Danny Rohl.

Josh Windass wants to leave Sheffield Wednesday amid the club’s ongoing financial crisis, which has just taken another turn for the worse, with the Owls now placed under a triple embargo by the EFL.

The EFL website’s embargoes section outlines that, as well as Wednesday’s breach of ‘Regulation 54.1 Non-payment to Players’ and ‘Regulation 17.3 HMRC Reporting’, the Owls are now under a third embargo for breach of ‘Regulation 52.2.3 ‘Non-payment of transfer fees’.

Wednesday’s first EFL embargo for non-payment to players came earlier in June, which was followed by the double embargo concerning the HMRC reporting.

In terms of the impact of the third embargo, it means that Chansiri and the Owls hierarchy must now settle up with players, HMRC, and the clubs they owe fees to before the EFL embargoes are lifted.

Therefore, it means that the club’s financial crisis could take even longer to resolve, confirming the latest blow in a horrific time for Sheffield Wednesday.

What future holds for Sheffield Wednesday after latest breach

In the latest blow at Hillsborough, The Telegraph report that the missing payments revolve around Shea Charles’ loan from Southampton last season and the deal to sign Akin Famewo from Norwich City in 2022.

As a result of the non-payment of fees, Sheffield Wednesday are potentially going to be with a points deduction for the 2025/26 Championship campaign, which will make surviving relegation to League One an even harder task amid the imminent summer exodus.

Sheffield Wednesday expert and Owls reporter Alex Miller labelled the situation “scandalous” on X after the latest breach, and the latest blow can be seen as nothing else.

With Leicester in talks for Rohl, several players heading for the exit doors, and the club now under a third embargo by the EFL, one of English football’s most historic clubs is on the brink of collapse.

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire revealed how Wednesday fans can instigate change against Chansiri, but further action from footballing authorities must arrive soon at Hillsborough, before it is too late.
