Plymouth Argyle fans are all in agreement as out on loan star ‘drives up value’

It’s been a dreadful start to the season for Plymouth Argyle, and with the team struggling at the bottom of the division, there are some painful questions to be answered by many at Home Park.

The Greens are currently 21st in League One and in the relegation zone, with Tom Cleverley’s side breaking their own third tier record after they lost all of their first four games of the season.

EFL Analysis revealed last month that the Devonshire outfit are stable financially, and there has been a growing frustration that not enough was done in the summer transfer window to build a squad capable of competing in the division.

Following a 4-0 loss to Cardiff City on Saturday, pressure is growing on just about everyone at Plymouth. However, away from the south-west coast of England, one player is thriving.

Plymouth Argyle fans react to Michael Baidoo’s goal in Qatar

Michael Baidoo joined Qatari side Umm Salal SC on 1 July, making his way out of Devon on a season-long loan.

There is no denying that the 26-year-old struggled to adjust to English football, making just 11 appearances for Plymouth. However, he scored an excellent goal for his new team on Tuesday evening, and Argyle supporters are all in agreement about one thing.

Argyle Life wrote: “Baidoo Update: Say whatever you want about the quality of the league BUT he’s timed that run perfectly. Hammered it home.”

While another supporter said: “There’s clearly a player in there, but we’ll never get the chance to see it. Shame, because he could have absolutely bossed League One.”

A fourth Plymouth fan put: “Drive up that value.”

As one more wrote: “He could have been here looking like Maradona in this squad, not because he’s particularly great, just the players around him absolutely aren’t.”

Michael Baidoo seems incredibly unlikely to play for Argyle again

It seems fairly obvious to say at this point in time, but Baidoo’s Plymouth career looks to have come to an end before it even started.

Relegation to League One saw a number of star players depart, with Ryan Hardie moving to Wrexham, while Adam Randell joined Bristol City. Although Baidoo did not show his class, he was a record signing for Argyle before Maksym Talovierov made his way to Devon.

The best situation now for the Greens is that the attacking midfielder continues to improve and prove himself in Qatar with a permanent departure likely next summer.

If Plymouth can recoup the majority of the fee that they spent on Baidoo, then the move may not be as much of a failure as first thought, although frustrations will still be high with the Ghana international.
