Plymouth Argyle handed major injury blow as Miron Muslic confirms ‘top lad’ will miss the rest of the season

Plymouth Argyle’s Championship survival hopes have taken another dent as manager Miron Muslic has revealed a fresh injury diagnosis for one of his key stars.

The Pilgrims currently sit bottom of the Championship table, fresh from a damaging result just before the international break.

With survival within their sights, a last-gasp goal from Marcus Harness saw Derby beat Plymouth in a relegation six-pointer, which swung the way of the Rams.

It means there are six points between the bottom side and safety, with just eight games left to claw back the difference.

It will take a huge turnaround from Miron Muslic to get Plymouth back in the mix, not least with teams around them all playing each other in the run-in too.

However, those chances appear to have slimmed even further following a fresh injury update.

Miron Muslic reveals Maksym Talovierov’s injury problem for Plymouth

Not only was there frustration in the Plymouth camp following a late defeat to Derby last time out, but there were some injury troubles too.

The Piglrims had an issue with defender Maksym Talovierov towards the end of the match, though that didn’t stop him from joining up with the Ukraine national team.

After the national team’s medical staff assessed the problem, it was determined that he would be out for the rest of the Championship campaign.

Muslic revealed all to the press before his side’s clash with Watford, stating: “He will be out I think for seven to eight weeks, more or less out of the season. It’s a huge setback for us.”

On how Talovierov took the news, the Plymouth boss said: “He’s very disappointed because the season is over and he can’t support us any more.

“We all know Maksym now, in the last two months, he’s a fighter, good spirit, top lad, good character.

“He’s very down, but this is also an opportunity for him to recover, to heal; he will get the full support of Plymouth Argyle, of all of us, and then he has to bounce back.”

It’s the latest in a long string of defensive injuries that Muslic is now having to deal with at Plymouth.

Plymouth have centre-back injury troubles

With Talovierov now out for the rest of the season, Plymouth face a real shortage of options at centre-back.

Before the Ukrainian international was out, there were already issues for Brendan Galloway, who is out for the season, and Julio Pleguezuelo.

It now leaves Muslic with just three options to feature at centre-back, with Nikola Katic, Kornel Szucs and Victor Palsson.

Given the Pilgrims have often lined up in a back three, any further absences could leave a huge dilemma for the manager.

Whether he chooses to go with a switch to a four or an unorthodox option at centre-back remains to be seen though, with there being hope that neither is needed if key players can keep fit.
