Port Vale aim sly dig at Tom Brady and Birmingham City after shock Carabao Cup win

Birmingham City suffered only their third ever competitive home defeat under Chris Davies, and it was at the hands of Port Vale.

The League One side may use this as a kick start for their season, having failed to win a game in the third tier of English football this campaign.

Birmingham City were much changed for the midweek fixture, as they made 10 changes to their starting team from their Championship 1-0 victory over Oxford United at the weekend.

Chris Davies and the Blues will turn their attention to their next match on Friday night, when they face Leicester City in the Championship; however, Port Vale were quick to have a dig at Birmingham City and their American owners in the defeat.

Port Vale make a dig towards Birmingham City’s docuseries

Birmingham City were the latest English football club to make a high-profile docuseries to record their journey as they attempt to return to the Premier League, following in the footsteps of Sunderland and Wrexham.

However, with a docuseries it is known that moments can be erased and edited out of the story should they not fit a narrative that the club are going for or should they be a minor inconvenience.

Port Vale were quick to make this point after they posted on social media about their victory over the Blues.

Taking to X, Port Vale had the popcorn emoji out, with the post stating: “Well then. We look forward to that episode.”

Whether another Carabao Cup exit before the third round for Birmingham makes it into the documentary remains to be seen; however, should it be included in the Amazon Prime series, then there may be a spike in viewership for that episode in Staffordshire.

Birmingham City’s recent Carabao Cup form

Birmingham City are one of 14 current clubs competing in the EFL to have lifted the Carabao Cup, and for this they were wearing a special badge on their sleeve to demonstrate this.

Their most recent success in the competition came in 2011, the same season they suffered relegation from the Premier League, which was the last time they were in the English top flight.

However, their recent record in the domestic cup has been terrible, as the Blues failed to progress to the third round of the Carabao Cup. The last time they did was 10 years ago in 2015.

While lifting the Carabao Cup is not the main priority of Birmingham City this season, nor has it been for the previous few seasons, a cup run can help fan excitement and build momentum, so they may look to correct this in the near future.
