Marti Cifuentes remains as the QPR manager for now, but work is ongoing to strengthen the team on the pitch ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Julien Stephan is expected to take charge of the R’s in the near-future after Cifuentes was placed on gardening leave back in April.
A dismal end to the season saw the West London outfit’s hopes of a play-off place evaporate in front of their own eyes, but after such a poor start, a mid-table finish was exactly what was needed at Loftus Road.
Yet there was one lingering issue that QPR had to sort, and that was the contract of Jimmy Dunne, who is well-liked by Sheffield United. Despite this interest, it was the R’s who were able to secure the deal before the Blades.
QPR supporters react to huge Jimmy Dunne news
Dunne, who can play at both centre-back and right-back, has been a real bright spark for his side over the last few years and he will continue to be a key player going forward.

While QPR have not explicitly announced the length of his new deal, it has stopped him from becoming a free agent this summer, and supporters are delighted.
Another R’s fan wrote: “This has improved my day significantly.”
While a third put: “Brilliant news Jimmy boy, glad you’re staying with the super Hoops.”
For one QPR supporter, it’s all about the next step: “Fantastic news love JD [Dunne] now try for [Ronnie] Edwards.”
And a sixth said: “Now that’s a surprise.”

Jimmy Dunne’s new contract is a huge blow to Sheffield United
As EFL Analysis understands, Chris Wilder is expected to be sacked by Sheffield United, with Ruben Selles looking likely to take charge at Bramall Lane and this may have factored into Dunne’s decision.
Wilder is a huge fan of the 27-year-old, but with the upcoming project at QPR, there are also plenty of reasons for the defender to get excited about staying.
| Appearances (starts) | 45 (45) |
| Minutes played | 4050 |
| Goals (assists) | 5 (2) |
| Shots (on target) | 55 (19) |
| Pass accuracy | 74.7% |
| Tackle success | 61.9% |
| Duel success | 62.9% |
| Aerial duel success | 63.3% |
There is no doubt that Dunne has the ability to play Premier League football in the very near future, but his commitment to the Hoops suggests that he believes that they can make that next step in the coming seasons. QPR may just be a team to keep a close eye on in 2025/26.
