It’s set to be a big week for managerial changes, and EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal where Bristol City and Middlesbrough stand on the idea of appointing Rob Edwards.
After weeks of speculation, it was finally confirmed that Liam Manning had taken the Norwich City job, leaving Bristol City in search of a new manager.
There have been plenty of reports linking Rob Edwards with the Bristol City job already, and it is thought he is keen on the post at Ashton Gate.
But, the departure of Michael Carrick at Middlesbrough yesterday may have opened up another door for Edwards, as the managerial merry-go-round continues to spin.

Bristol City and Middlesbrough court Rob Edwards
As we exclusively revealed yesterday, Steve Cooper is the favourite for the Middlesbrough job, but Edwards is on Steve Gibson’s list of candidates at the Riverside.
Meanwhile, we also revealed that Carrick was being considered by Bristol City after becoming available, with a quick-fire return to management not out of the realms of possibility.
Now, thanks to further information from our Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey, we can share an update on where Rob Edwards stands in all of this.
EFL Analysis understands that Rob Edwards has already been offered the Bristol City job, but crucially, he has yet to agree a deal there. Middlesbrough are currently considering Edwards as Carrick’s replacement as well.
City have been looking at other options as a contingency, but our sources have confirmed that Edwards is emerging as the first choice to replace Manning.
Carrick is one of those alternatives, but it is said the move to appoint him would be a “tough call.”
Either way, it is believed Bristol City would like their new manager confirmed this week.

Rob Edwards’ managerial career to date
After beginning his managerial work with Wolves as a youth coach, assistant manager and, briefly, as caretaker manager, Rob Edwards then took on his first full-time managerial role at Telford.
He then returned to Wolves and did some work with the England Under-16s squad, before taking the top job at Forest Green.

From there, Edwards’ reputation soared with Watford and, of course, Luton Town. He took the Hatters to the Premier League against all the odds and won many admirers for his work there, but he and Luton struggled upon their return to the Championship last season and he was dismissed in January.
Now, it would seem that one way or another, he could be back in the game soon.
