Rumours over a Saudi-led takeover of Bristol City have been quashed by Turki Alalshikh, but there is still hope that an alternative suitor can make an approach.
It has been a whirlwind number of days for Bristol City, with supporters being teased with rumours of a takeover of their club.
Reports from Alan Nixon via Patreon suggested that Saudi Arabian boxing promoter Turki Alalshikh has flown to England to meet current owner Steve Lansdown after weeks of negotiations between the two parties.
Based on the success of Newcastle United’s Saudi takeover, Bristol City supporters have been optimistic for the future.
Any claims of a takeover led by Alalshikh have been quashed, however, with the promoter making a short yet swift statement on social media.

Bristol City’s Saudi takeover ruled out despite ‘visit to club’s training ground’
On X, Turki Alalshikh confirmed to his 7m followers in a short statement: “It is not true that I will buy Bristol City FC.”
While Alalshikh’s comments may have brought Bristol City fans back down to earth due to the takeover of the Saudi boxing promoter with an estimated net worth of over £2 billion, there is still potential that changes could be made.
It was reported, following Alalshikh’s social media statement, by Ross Arnott that nothing is imminent regarding a change of ownership, but there was a visit to the club’s training ground this week.
Current owner Steve Lansdown has been integral in the club’s improvements off the pitch, having overseen significant changes since acquiring Bristol City in 2002.

Robins takeover could take the club to the next level
While Steve Lansdown has been crucial in stabilising the club, many supporters have ambitions that go far beyond consolidation in the Championship.
Bristol City have been in the Championship since the 2015/16 season, and 10 years on, fans are keen to finally play in the Premier League.
The Robins are yet to play in the Premier League since the new era began in 1992, with their previous top flight campaign being the 1979/80 season.
After going close last season, only to be dealt a heavy defeat against Sheffield United, a bright start to the 2025/26 Championship season has given hope to the fans once again.
With the fresh backing of a new consortium at Bristol City, it may be exactly what is needed to take the club to the next level.
