Sheffield United fans demand ‘ten year contract’ for ‘unreal’ ace after Steel City derby win vs Sheffield Wednesday

In a heated and cagey Steel City derby, Sheffield United came out on top at Hillsborough, and Blades fans are full of praise for one man.

Going into the game, both Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday had so much to fight for. Not only were bragging rights and city pride at stake, but three points would go a long way the promotion hopes of either side.

Chris Wilder’s team taught the Owls a lesson last time the two teams met, and it was a similar story in many ways in this reverse fixture.

While Wednesday started strong, they were unable to find a breakthrough, and the Blades eventually snatched a win through sheer resilience and determination.

It was Michael Cooper who bagged the highest player rating from the Steel City derby for us, but United fans are all delighted for another star man who made all the difference today.

Sheffield United fans hail match-winner Rhian Brewster

Rhian Brewster bagged the winning goal, after some fine work from Tyrese Campbell and poor defending from the Owls put it on a plate for the former Chelsea and Liverpool striker.

We backed Brewster to get a start for this game, with Wilder clearly ready to take that risk, and it paid off and then some.

Taking to social media to celebrate the goal and the win, Sheffield United fans were buzzing for Brewster, who has had to endure plenty of criticism and even more injury issues over the years.

One fan wrote: “Criticise him when he gets it wrong but I’m man enough to give credit when he gets it right, absolutely fair play to deliver under that pressure.”

Others joked that United should give a “Ten year contract to Brewster,” that “Brewster is the greatest footballer of all time,” and that he should win the Ballon d’Or for his efforts in the derby.

Given his history, and the amount of negativity he has dealt with in the past, plenty of fans acknowledged the irony and the beauty of Brewster’s goal, with one saying: “It just had to be him.”

Another added: “I don’t want to hear anyone criticise this lad again.”

Meanwhile, Brewster’s big price tag was mentioned again, with one fan writing, “Rhian Brewster is unreal. Pay Liverpool another £20 million,” while another said, “Worth every penny just for that.”

Perfect revenge for Rhian Brewster after Barry Bannan comments

It really was fated for Brewster to be the man to make the difference in this game, especially after that ‘honking’ comment from Owls skipper Barry Bannan previously (via talkSPORT).

Grabbing that goal today will not only put Brewster into Sheffield United folklore for achieving the double over their city rivals, but it’s the perfect response to anyone who has slated him in the past.

While Brewster is still far off the potential he once had, he has now played 32 games this season, the most he’s featured in since the 2020/21 campaign. His fitness issues are fading away, he’s getting goals and assists again, albeit sporadically, and it certainly looks like the fire and passion is back for the striker.

Chris Wilder is a ‘big fan’ of Brewster, and he clearly wants him to succeed with the Blades. After this goal and this performance, there’s every chance the 24-year-old can get his career firmly back on track, and he may even get another shot at top flight football next season, too.
