Sheffield United fans snub Japhet Tanganga in signing of the summer conversation for ‘smart’ addition

Sheffield United are finally off the mark for the season after their win against Oxford United.

Callum O’Hare’s second-half goal was enough for Chris Wilder to earn his first win in his third spell as the manager of the Blades.

Wilder needs to be in promotion contention by Christmas and although three points weren’t enough to take them off the bottom of the table, it’s three points in the right direction.

Japhet Tanganga was the marquee signing through the door at Bramall Lane, but there is another player who has been hailed as the best piece of business this summer.

Ben Mee named as Sheffield United’s signing of the summer

One of Ruben Selles’ best signings was the addition of Ben Mee.

The experienced defender signed on a free transfer, and made his debut in a man of the match performance.

Supporters have also been impressed and think he has been the signing of the season.

@updemblades24 wrote: “Proper experienced professional. Been crying out for a leader on pitch. The owners/Selles best signing this summer.”

@KopFinest commented: “Speaks as mature and brilliantly as he plays on the pitch. Smart signing as I said when we snapped him up. Love players like this, infectious leadership. Well played Ben.”

@sufcdan12 states: “We have won 100% of games Ben Mee has played and never conceded a goal with him on the pitch. The best CB in football history.”

@simon_christie said: “Think his experience will also be a huge positive for us.”

@Brett81Gregory commented: “Absolute Rolls Royce today! Won everything! In the Air, on the floor, nothing got by him. Just what we needed.”

Ben Mee reacts to Sheffield United debut

The 36-year-old has been getting up to speed before making his full debut and it is no coincidence that his first appearance came hand in hand with the Blades’ first win.

Mee is loving life at Bramall Lane and loved the reception he got from supporters after the game.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, he said: “It was nice to get that praise. I was a little bit rusty at times, but things will get better with time.

“I thought all of the boys were fantastic so I think everyone deserved a good round of applause. I hope the fans enjoyed it.”
