Sheffield United signed striker Danny Ings on a free transfer in the summer. But the Blades are yet to really see their man in action.
This season so far has certainly been a disastrous one for Sheffield United, who remain in last place having lost all six of their opening Championship games so far.
Ruben Selles has already been sacked by Sheffield United who have hired Chris Wilder for a third time, though in his opening game back at the club, Sheffield United lost 1-0 at home to Charlton Athletic.
Absent from that Charlton game was Danny Ings. Sheffield United signed Ings on a free transfer this summer but he’s only managed 12 minutes of football for the Blades since.

How much Danny Ings is earning at Sheffield United
Ings was hot property among Championship clubs in the summer. Middlesbrough were keen to sign Ings but he eventually made the move to South Yorkshire, signing a one-year contract at Sheffield United with the option for a further year too.
He then made his debut against Boro as a late substitute. But he’s not featured in any of the following two games after it was revealed that he’s picked up a hamstring injury, and when he might return to action really remains a mystery with no prognosis just yet.
Nonetheless, Ings will still get paid, and per Capology, the former Liverpool striker is earning a cool £30,000-a-week at Bramall Lane: if he’s out for a month even, he’ll earn £120,000 without kicking a ball, and if he’s out until Christmas, for example, he’ll earn well over £300,000 after playing just 12 minutes of football, and more than half-a-million from when he signed.

Danny Ings injury history amid Sheffield United fears
With West Ham, Ings actually overcame the worst of his injury fears. He was pretty much always available for injury but was simply down in the pecking order in East London.
It was with Liverpool between 2015 and 2019 where the troubles really started. When injured, Ings seemed to be injured for a long time, and it may suggest to Wilder that Ings is now facing a significant spell on the sidelines having already missed two games.
| Season | Days missed through injury | Games missed |
| 18/19 | 110 days | 19 |
| 16/17 | 289 days | 41 |
| 15/16 | 211 days | 54 |
It’s a big blow for the Blades who really need someone with Ings’ experience and quality to drag them out of this rut, and get them back up the Championship standings to a more familiar position.
The Blades travel to Oxford United this weekend.
