It’s official, Ruben Selles’ short time in charge of Sheffield United has come to an expected end.
The Blades decided to part ways with the Spaniard following a dismal 5-0 away defeat to Ipswich Town on Friday evening, and Chris Wilder is expected to be the next manager of the South Yorkshire outfit, having only left the club earlier this summer.
Selles lost all five of his Championship games this season, while his now former club were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the first time of asking against Birmingham City in August.
Sheffield United are rooted to the bottom of the league table, and there is a mountain to climb for their next head coach. Now, fans have reacted to the departure of Selles.

Sheffield United fans react as Ruben Selles is sacked
After keeping Hull City in the Championship last season, the former Southampton boss was hoping to come in and have an instant impact at Bramall Lane.

Nevertheless, it was a tough summer for Sheffield United as key players such as Anel Ahmedhodzic left for Feyenoord while Vini Souza moved to Wolfsburg. Despite this, performances have not been good enough, and fans have taken to social media to express their views on Selles’ sacking.
Another Sheffield United supporter agreed with this take: “Hard work?”
As a third wrote: “Not many managers leave United with a 100% record.”
One more Blades fan questioned the statement: “What hard work exactly?”
While a sixth said: “Hard work in undoing everything that was set up before him. Absolutely atrocious manager, good riddance.”

Ruben Selles’ time at Bramall Lane will be difficult to forget
An opening day 4-1 defeat to Bristol City instantly ensured that the pressure was on Selles and he never truly recovered from that loss.
In the weeks following, the Blades showed signs of positivity, but their defensive frailties made it difficult for them to pick up points as their strikers struggled to be a real threat in the final third.

They have scored only once so far this season in the league, and the 5-0 loss to Ipswich was ultimately the straw that broke the camel’s back for Selles.
With Wilder likely to come in as the replacement, Sheffield United may be able to regain some much-needed consistency soon.
