Sheffield United have made a decision on Ruben Selles’ future after a difficult start to his Blades tenure.
It has been a poor start to the 2025/26 Championship season for Sheffield United and Ruben Selles, having lost every game, leaving them at the bottom of the table.
Following Sheffield United’s recent defeat to Ipswich Town, which saw the Blades ship five goals, further pressure continued to mount on the under scrutiny Spanish boss.
Sheffield United have sounded out Chris Wilder as a potential option, which EFL Analysis exclusively confirmed could have financial benefits, as the former Blades boss’ monthly pay-off would no longer have to be owed.
We can now exclusively reveal, following the hammering at Portman Road, that a decision has been made on Selles by COH Sports.

Sheffield United have sacked Ruben Selles following troubling spell
EFL Analysis have been told by our chief transfer expert, Graeme Bailey, that Sheffield United have made the decision to relieve Ruben Selles of his duties at the club.
Bailey said: “The Blades management believed the change in the summer was the right way to go, but I am told they have been left ‘staggered’ by how poor the club’s start has been.
“Selles has now been removed and the club have already been assessing options to replace him, and as we confirmed Chris Wilder has been talked to about a return to the club.”
Selles’ run that left the hierarchy ‘staggered’ has seen Sheffield United emerge bottom of the Championship, having scored just one goal, while also tallying the joint-most conceded.

What is next for Sheffield United
It is clear that Chris Wilder is wanted by the Sheffield United hierarchy, with it being reported that the former Blades boss is keen to return to Bramall Lane, in spite of his surprise departure this summer.
There is no ill-feeling between the owners, COH Sports and Wilder, with the Stocksbridge-born coach making it clear this summer that he held no resentment towards the hierarchy.
The Sheffield United owners will now feel as though they made a disastrous decision, not only to appoint Ruben Selles, who would always have a difficult job, but to lose Wilder in the first place.
The decision to part ways with Selles is a positive step by the owners, particularly given their proactive approach to making the decision.
